Prayers.

Publick Claimants.

THE humble Petition of many Hundreds starving Persons, contained in the List called Potter's List, way this Day read.

Mr. Trenchard reports from the Commissioners for compounding with Delinquents at Weavers Hall:

In Pursuance of an Order of Parliament, of the Fifteenth of November instant, 1649, re-committing the Reports of this Committee touching Sanderson's and Potter's Lists, and ordering this Committee to state the Matter of Fact, &c.;

It is Ordered, That Mr. Trenchard be desired to report, That this Committee do find the State of the Accompts of those Lists to be as followeth;

Publick Claimants.

That there was due unto the Three Lists, by the Name of Wilcox, Potter's and Sanderson's Lists, Forty-two thousand Pounds; which was ordered to be paid by the Commissioners of Sequestrations at the Guildhall, out of the Monies that should be paid unto them out of the Rents and Profits of sequestred Estates.

That of those Monies there have been, at several times, paid to the said Three Lists, Sixteen thousand Pounds, besides Nine hundred Pounds since ordered to Sanderson's List: So that there remains unpaid Twenty-five thousand One hundred Pounds; viz. to Sanderson's List, Seven thousand Six hundred and Seventy Pounds; to Potter's List, Fourteen thousand Five hundred and Seventy Pounds; and to Wilcox his List, Two thousand Eight hundred and Sixty Pounds.

That Sanderson's List was, upon Composition, to be paid Ten thousand Pounds, in lieu of Seventeen thousand Pounds, which appears due unto them, upon Account.

Potter's List, having only received Two thousand Four hundred and Thirty Pounds, is yet in arrear Fourteen thousand Five hundred and Seventy Pounds.

Towards Payment of all which, in the former Report, this Committee offered to the Consideration of the House, That there was Eleven thousand Pounds out of Weavers Hall, being an Engagement upon the Treasury of this Committee, which was not disposed of to any particular Use; which, if the House thought fit, might be ordered to them, in Part of their said Arrears.

That since those Monies are, by Vote of the House, ordered to go towards the Abatement of the monthly Taxes, that this Committee cannot propose any way for Satisfaction thereof, in respect that, by the late Votes, they have ordered the said Eleven thousand Pounds, and also the Profits of the Sequestrations, which were formerly assigned to this Use, towards the Abatement of the monthly Taxes; and do therefore leave it to the Consideration of the House, what Provision may be made for satisfying this Debt.

Ordered, That the Sum of Six thousand Pounds, Part of the Eleven thousand Pounds which is to be paid in to Weavers Hall by the Treasurers of Goldsmiths Hall, be paid unto the Trustees appointed for the Persons contained in Sanderson's List, in full Satisfaction and Discharge of all the Monies claimed by them for their Arrears, and of all Demands by them: And that the Committee of Goldsmiths Hall be required, notwithstanding any former Order, to give Warrant to the Treasurers of that Receipt to make Payment of the said Six thousand Pounds, in Course, accordingly, after such Monies as stand already charged for the Use of the Publick.

Ordered, That the Five thousand Pounds, Residue of the said Eleven thousand Pounds, shall be paid, in Course, after such Monies as stand now charged for the Use of the Publick to the Auditors at Worcester House, And that the said Auditors for Accompts at Worcester House, according to former Rules, be required to state the Accompts, what Monies are due from the State to each of the particular Persons contained in Potter's List: And that the said Treasurers do retain the said Five thousand Pounds in their Hands, until the said Accompts are stated; and then to issue out and pay the said Five thousand Pounds unto such of the said Persons to whom there shall appear Money to be due, proportionably.

Ordered, That the said Auditors do likewise consider how much the Persons in the said List, or any of them, have received by a weekly Pension: And that the same be deducted in their said Accompts; and also whether they have not been paid in any other List.

Ordered, That no Person or Persons who shall clamour at the Door, and thereby interrupt the Business of the House, shall, from thenceforth, receive any weekly Pension; but that the Treasurers for maimed Soldiers do, from thenceforth, forbear to make Payment of the said Pension to them, or any of them.

Report deferred.

Ordered, That Mr. Trenchard do on Friday next, make a Report touching the Five hundred Pounds given by the Parliament to several poor Persons.

Duresine Dean and Chapter.

Ordered, That Mr. Garland do make the Report from the Committee for Obstructions, touching the Tenants of the Lands of the Deans and Chapter of Duresme.

The Engagement.

And Act for a general Subseription to the Engagement throughout the Nation was this Day read the First and Second Time; and, upon the Question, committed to Sir Henry Vane senior, Sir Henry Vane junior, Mr. Lislebone Long, Mr. Leman, Colonel Fleetwood, Mr. Robinson, Lord Grey, Colonel Bossevile, Mr. Scott, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Bond, Mr. Gurdon, Earl of Pembroke, Earl of Salisbury, Lord Commissioner Whitelock, Colonel Wogan, Colonel Ven, Colonel Purefoy, Mr. Pury, Lord Howard, Mr. Clement, Mr. Fry, Sir Wm. Masham, Mr. Heveningham, Mr. Allen, Colonel Marten, Sir Arthur Hesilrige, Mr. Challener; or any Five of them: And all that come to have Voices: And the Committee is to meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And the particular Care hereof is committed to Mr. Myles Corbett; and to bring in a Report on Friday next.

Claims on Publick Faith.

Ordered, That the Petition touching such as have contributed upon the Publick Faith do come in Course, on Friday next.

Relief of Debtors.

Ordered, That the Act touching Release of poor Prisoners, and the Report touching the Messengers, be reported To-morrow Morning the First Business.

Sheriffs.

Ordered, That Thomas Smith of Binderton, Esquire, be, and is hereby nominated and approved of to be, HighSheriff of the County of Sussex: And that the Lord Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do issue a Commission to him to be High Sheriff of the said County accordingly.

The Question being propounded, That Mr. Robert Jenkinson Esquire, be discharged from being High Sheriff of the County of Oxon;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So the Question passed with the Negative.
