Prayers.

Lincolne Assessments.

A LETTER from Lincolne, of 20 Julii 1649, from the Commissioners for that County, for the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Letter be referred to the Committee of the Army: And that they consider of the said Letter; and take care, with the Gentlemen of Lincolnsheire, that the most speedy and effectual Course be taken to bring in the Money upon the Assessment of Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem in that County, to avoid Free Quarter.

Ordered, That Jeremy Cole, Robert Camock, and James Langton, Gentlemen, be added as Commissioners for the Assessments of the Ninety-thousand Pounds per mensem, for the County of Lincolne.

Ordered, That Colonel Disborrough be added to the Commissioners for Hampsheire, for the Assessment of the Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem.

Ordered, That William Ayres Esquire, and Richard Hill Gentlemen, be added to the Commissioners for the Assessment of Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem for the County of Wilts.

Ordered, That the Mayor, for the Time being, of the City of Oxford, Alderman Nixon, Alderman Southam, Alderman Sprigg, Mr. Denis, and Mr. Cave, be added as Commissioners for the Assessments of the Ninety thousand Pounds per mensem, for the City of Oxon.

The Mint.

Mr. Attorney General reports an Oath, to be taken by the Master-worker of the Mint, in these Words; viz. " You shall swear, that you shall bear yourself well and covenable, to your utmost Power, towards the Keepers of the Liberty of England, and the People in your Office of Master and Worker of the Mint of the Monies of this Commonwealth. So help you God."

Which Oath was this Day read; and, upon the Question, assented unto.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Revenue, to approve of the Security to be given by the Master-worker of the Mint; and to give Direction how, and in what Manner, the same shall be given.

Prisoners.

Ordered, That Mr. Fell be added to the Committee for Prisoners.

Publick Accompts.

Ordered, That the Act touching the Accompts of the Commonwealth, and the Act for the Accompts of the Navy and Customs, be brought in on Saturday next.

Serjeant Bradshawe.

An Act for settling Two thousand Pounds per Annum upon John Bradshawe, Serjeant at Law, Lord President of the Council of State, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to the former Committee that brought it in: And that Mr. Carey Rawleigh, Mr. John Goodwyn, Mr. Weaver, and Mr. Stephens, be added to that Committee: And they, or any Five of them, are to meet To-morrow in the Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber: And this Committee have Power to send for Persons, Papers, &c.

Grant to Martin.

The Lord Commissioner Whitlock reports an Act for settling Lands of the clear yearly Value of One thousand Pounds upon Henry Marten Esquire, and his Heirs.

Which was read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to the same Committee for the Act touching the Lord President: And they are to meet at the same Time and Place: And that this Committee have Power to present other particular Lands, to be inserted in this Bill, instead of any of those that are already inserted: And that the said Committee have Power, and be required, to cause Surveys to be taken, upon Oath, touching the Values of the Lands and Premises inserted, or to be inserted, in this Act, as also in the Act touching the Lord President, if they see Cause.

Customs.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Report made by Mr. Miles Corbett, of a List of Officers necessary to be added to those appointed by the late Model, for the better Carrying on of the Affairs of the Customs in the Port of London, and Out Ports.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of this Increase and Establishment, in the said List, for the Port of London.

The List of such Officers as are conceived necessary, and which may conveniently carry on the Affairs of the Customs in the respective Out Ports of this Nation, together with such Salaries as are conceived fit to be allowed unto them, was also read.

Resolved, &c. That * Smyth be added for Waiter and Searcher in the Port of Poole: And that he have the like Salary with the other Waiter and Searcher, being Twenty five Pounds per Annum.

Resolved, &c. That the Committee of the Navy be impowered to increase the Salaries of the Cheques in the principal Ports as they shall see Cause, not exceeding Twenty Pounds; and to raise the Salaries in the Cheques of the inferior Ports, if they see Cause, not exceeding the Sum of Ten Pounds.

The Question being propounded, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to take a Review of a Surveyor and Searcher for the Port of Lynne in Com' Norfolk;

The Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to take a Review of a Surveyor and Searcher of the Port of Lynne in Com' Norfolk;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it passed with the Negative.

Ordered, That the Case and Petition of Mr. Whicker, concerning the Moiety of a Searcher's Place at Gravesend, in the Port of Dover, be referred to the Committee of the Navy and Customs: Who are to examine the Business, and consider how he may be relieved.

The humble Petition of Thomas Shadwell Esquire, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to examine and State the whole Business: and report it to the House on Thursday next: And the Place of the Cheque of the Port of Lynne is to stand with a Blank, in the mean time, in the List now reported.
