Prayers.

Chief Justice of King's Bench.

AN Ordinance for authorizing and requiring the Commissioners of the Great Seal, forthwith to issue Writs Patent, and to do all other things necessary, in order to the perfect settling Henry Rolle, now one of the Justices of the King's Bench, in the Place of Chief Justice of that Court, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Mr. Bond is appointed to carry it to the Lords.

He is likewise appointed to carry to the Lords the Order for passing under the Great Seal, the Place of Master of the Armoury, formerly granted to Anthony Nicoll Esquire.

I. of Ely Judge.

Ordered, That on Tuesday next, when the Names of the Sheriffs are appointed to be brought in, the Ordinance formerly sent from the Lords for appointing Mr. Waller Judge of the Isle of Ely, be read.

Message to Lords.

Sir William Lewes, with the Message appointed Yesterday, carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Order for leaving it to the Commissioners in the Isle of Wight to send some of their Number hither: The Order for Leave to the Doctors, desired by the King, to go unto him.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Bond brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Ordinance concerning Mr. Justice Rolle, and to the Order concerning Mr. Anthony Nicoll.

Ditto.

Sir Wm. Lewes brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Votes, in which he desired their Concurrence: To the sending of the Votes to the Commissioners in the Isle of Wight: To the Letter for the Conveying of them: And, as to the Quorum of the Lords mentioned in One of the Votes, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Waller, Alderman Atkin, Mr. Scott, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Annesley, Mr. Dodderidge, Mr. Tate, Mr. Allen, Mr. Swynfen, Sir Gilbert Gerard, Mr. Bond, Mr. Gott, Mr. Walker, Mr. Fiennes, Colonel Venne, Alderman Soame, Mr. Vassall, Mr. Lemman, Major General Skippon, Mr. Drake, Colonel Harley, * Herbert * Wilson, Colonel Harrison, Colonel White, Sir Hen. Heyman, Mr. Erle, the Burgesses of London;

This Committee is appointed to go to the Common Council, this Afternoon; and to acquaint them with the State and Condition of the Guards that now attend the Houses. That the House observes, That they are most hired Men, and not Citizens: That the House cannot repose their Security in such: And are to confer with the Common Council, and Committee of the Militia, or such Committee as they shall appoint, How the Parliament may be better secured; their Commands and Orders put in better Execution; and their Authority better supported: And they are to report on Tuesday Morning next.

Papists, &c.

Ordered, That an Ordinance be prepared and brought in for putting Papists, Malignants, and Delinquents, out of the Lines of Communication, and Twenty Miles distant.

Stage Plays, &c.

Ordered, That the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex be and are hereby authorized, and strictly required, to put in due and full Execution the Ordinances passed both Houses, for the Suppressing of Stage Plays, and Punishing of Players, and such as resort to Stage Plays: And are to give this House an Account of their effectual Proceedings herein.

Sir Thomas Soame and Colonel Venn are appointed to deliver this Order to the Sheriffs; and to give the House an Account thereof.

Parliament Guards.

Ordered, That Mr. Annesley, Colonel Copley, Mr. Swynfen, Sir John Curson, Mr. Wheler, Mr. Erle, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Dodderidge, Mr. Nicoll, Sir James Harrington, be added to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, as to the Ordinance referred to that Committee, for raising Monies for Payment of the Horse Guards that attend the Houses.

Resolved, &c. That the Party or Parties, to whom any Tickets shall be assigned for raising the Five thousand Pounds, upon the late Ordinance for Payment of the Guards appointed to attend the Houses, shall be admitted to double the Sum. in like manner as was observed in the Sale of the Bishops Lands.

Ordered, That Thirty Days longer be added for the Continuance of the Ordinance passed for the Payment of the Horse Guards that attend the Parliament; to commence from the Expiration of the Time now limited to the said Ordinance.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein: And that these Orders be printed.

Pass for Carmichill.

Ordered, That Lieutenant Colonel James Carmichill, who is employed from the Committee of Estates in Scotland, to deliver Letters to the Prince of Wales, shall have Mr. Speaker's Pass to embark, and transport himself beyond the Seas, to the Prince, for the Delivery of the said Letters.

Provost Marshal.

Ordered, That the Committee at Haberdashers Hall be earnestly desired to pay, in the first Place, the Monies charged upon that Committee, by the Ordinance of Threeand-twentieth of September 1648, for the Supply and Pay of Francis Bothen, appointed by the said Ordinance to be Provost Marshal: It is more particularly recommended to Mr. Bond to take care herein.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Bennett and Mr. Hakewill;

The Lords have passed a Vote concerning the Commissioners in the Isle of Wight: In which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

They desire to put the House in mind of a Petition, formerly sent to this House, concerning the exempting the Hospital of Well, in Yorksheir, from Assessments and Loans: To put the House in mind of a Message formerly sent to this House, for conferring on Mr. Henry Morris the Place in the Wine Office, which Mr. Swettnam formerly held.

Commissioners in I. of Wight.

The Vote concerning the Commissioners in the Isle of Wight was read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto; and ordered to be sent to the Commissioners, with the other Votes; and was in hæc verba; viz.

Resolved, &c. That the Commissioners now in the Isle of Wight, have Power to agree, among themselves, which of them shall come away, and attend the Houses, leaving Three there, whereof One Lord and Two Commoners.

Well Hospital.

Ordered, That the Petition concerning Well Hospital in Yorksheire, be read on Wednesday Morning.

Delinquents.

Ordered, That on Monday Morning next, the first Business; and nothing to intervene: the House do proceed in the further Debate of the Business touching Delinquents.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and do agree to the Vote concerning the Commissioners in the Isle of Wight. To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Chief Justice of King's Bench.

Whereas the Lords and Commons, assembled in Parliament, have ordered and ordained Henry Roll, now being one of the Justices of the King's Bench, to be Chief Justice of the same Court: The said Lords and Commons, for the due Performance thereof, do hereby Order and Ordain, That the Commissioners of the Great Seal of England do speedily issue forth a Writ of Supersedeas, to supersede the now Patent of the said Henry Roll, for being one of the Justices of the said Bench; and also do then issue forth a Writ Patent, or Patent Writ, for calling the said Henry Rolle to be Chief Justice of the said Court, in usual Form, adding thereunto, next before the Teste of the said Writ Quam diu vos bene gesseritis: and further, to do all other necessary things therein, for the perfect Settling of him in the said Place or Office of Chief Justice.
