Prayers.

Grand Committee.

SIR Robert Harley reports from the Grand Committee, That the said Committee have adjourned until Tuesday Morning, Eight of Clock.

Ordered, That the House be turned into a Grand Committee on Tuesday Morning next: And that Mr. Speaker do forbear to take the Chair.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Earl of Cleveland be exchanged for Mr. Bernardiston and Mr. Middleton.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Colonel Copley to carry it up.

Conference desired.

Mr. Ellis brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to a present Conference.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Ordered, That Colonel Sir Gilbert Gerard be exchanged for Colonel Ayloffe.

Ordered, That Colonel Wm. Legg be exchanged for Sir William Rowe.

Ordered, That Colonel Ro. Legg be exchanged for Mr. Samson Sheiffeild.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Payton be exchanged for Mr. Smith.

Ordered, That Colonel Skrimpsheire be exchanged for Major Langley.

Ordered, That Mr. William Swanne be exchanged for Mr. John Eden.

Ordered, That Mr. Thomas Elliott be exchanged for Mr. Crane.

Ordered, That a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, be sent to the General, touching the said several Exchanges to be made for the Committee of Essex.

Commissary Copley is to prepare the said Letter.

Actions against Members.

Ordered, That, on Monday Morning, the first Business, the House do take into Consideration the Business touching the Members of the House, who refuse to appear to Actions brought against them.

Coke's Delinquency.

Sir John Danvers carried to the Lords for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for pardoning the Delinquency of Mr. Coke.

Needham's Widow.

Ordered, That Five hundred Pounds be forthwith advanced and paid unto Colonel Needham's Widow, out of such Delinquents Estates as she shall discover: And that the same be charged at Haberdashers Hall.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ordered, That the Sum of Five Pounds per Week be paid unto the Widow of Colonel Needham, at Goldsmiths Hall, until the said Sum of Five hundred Pounds, ordered to her at Haberdashers Hall be paid unto her.

Ordered, That the Accompts of Colonel Needham, deceased, be referred to the Committee of the Army; to take and state the same; and to report it to the House.

Exchange of Prisoners.

Colonel Copley carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, Vote for exchanging the Earl of Cleveland for Mr. Bernardiston and Mr. Middleton.

He brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the said Vote.

Lancaster Forces.

Sir John Danvers reports a Letter, from the Committee of Lancaster, of the Third of August 1648.

Ordered, That Ten thousand Pounds be advanced, and charged upon the Moiety of the Grand Excise, in Course, not yet disposed of, for paying the Forces, as well under the Command of Colonel Ashton, as those now in the County of Lancaster: And that the Interest of the said Ten thousand Pounds shall be paid towards the Maintenance of the said Forces, out of such Delinquents Estates as they shall discover, not yet discovered, at Haberdashers Hall.

Ordered, That the Estates of such Delinquents, as they shall discover, not formerly discovered, and the Profits of the said Estates for the present, and the Fines and Compositions of such Delinquents, shall go towards the Pay of the said Soldiers, in the Town and County of Lancaster.

Cheshire.

Ordered, That Cheshire Business be proceeded in on Monday Morning next.

Surrey.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for the County of Surrey be read on Monday Morning next.

Poole Garison.

Sir John Danvers reports from the Committee at Derby House, a Letter from John Rede, from Poole, of the Twenty-seventh of July 1648.

Which was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred back again to the Committee at Derby House, to take the Garison of Poole into Consideration: And that the Gentlemen of the several Counties of Dorsett, Hantsheire, and Wilts, do attend the Committee at Derby House, both concerning the Governor of the said Garison, and also to consider and advise together of a Course for Supply of the said Garison: And that the said Gentlemen do propose some such Ways to the said Committee, for Supply of the said Garison, as they shall think best.

Discharge of De Great, &c.

Ordered, That John De Great, John James, and Leonard Leonards, upon Payment of the Monies due by them for Excise, be freed and discharged of and from their Commitment.

Apprehending Pagan.

Ordered, That the Militia of the City of London be required to be aiding and assisting to the Serjeant at Arms that attends this House, or his Deputy or Deputies, in the Apprehending of Peter Pagan.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Heath and Mr. Eltonhead;

The Lords have sent unto you an Order for reimbursing the Earl of Northumberland such Monies as he hath disbursed for the King's Children, out of the Monies in the Hands of the Customers of the old Customs: An Order, That the Custody and Command of Finchley Chace in the County of Southampton be granted unto Charles Lord La Ware: An Ordinance for Discharge of the Sequestration laid upon the Lands of Ralph Hansby; and for Lyonell Copley Esquire to enjoy the Wardship of the Body, and Lease of the Lands of Ralph Hansby, Son and Heir of Sir Ralph Hansby, according to his Grant made by the Court of Wards: In which the Lords desire the Concurrence of this House. The Lords have sent unto you Letters from the Lord Admiral to the Committee at Derby House, touching the Garison of Poole: Which they commend to the Consideration of this House, The Lords commanded us to put you in mind of the Order for Mr. Morris, for conferring the Place of Mr. Swetnam in the Wine Licence Office, upon him, for these Reasons; for that this Order is to effect the Intentions of both Houses, declared about Three Years sithence, in his Order dated the One-and-thirtieth of January 1645; and several Orders and Proceedings thereupon had at the Committee of the Revenue; to reward his long and very great Pains taken in the Publick Affairs.

Earl of Northumberland.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Revenue, to state the Accompts of the Earl of Northumberland; and to see what is due to him; and report the same to this House.

Finchley Chace.

An Order, sent from the Lords, for granting the Custody and Command of Finchley Chace in the County of Southampton unto Charles Lord La Ware, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto; and was as followeth; viz.

Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, in Parliament assembled, That the Custody and Command of Finchley Chace in the County of Southampton, being under Sequestration for the Delinquency of Sir John Philpott Knight (for the better Preservation of the Woods and Game therein, which have been, and are daily, much wasted and destroyed by unruly Persons, and others, who wrongfully enter upon the same), be granted unto Charles Lord La Ware, it lying near to his Lordship's Lands in the said County: Who is desired to take care thereof accordingly.

Hansby's Sequestration.

An Ordinance, sent from the Lords, for taking off the Sequestration of Sir Ralph Hansby Knight; and that Lyonell Copley Esquire enjoy the Tuition of the Body and Lands of Ralph Hansby, Son and Heir of Sir Ralph, during his Minority, according to his Grant made in the Court of Wards; was this Day read, and amended.

And the said Amendment, being put to the Question, was agreed unto.

And the said Ordinance, so amended, being put to the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords.

Sir John Clotworthy is to carry it to the Lords.

Examinations of Challoner, &c.

A Letter from the Lord Admiral, of the Tenth of August 1648, sent from the Lords; with the Examinations of James Challenor, Edward Whiteing, Richard Brett, and others; were this Day read.

Ordered, That the said Letters and Examinations be referred to the Committee of the Navy, or any Three of them; to examine the said Business: And the said Committee are enjoined to sit this Afternoon.

Relief of Merchants.

Ordered, That the Committee where Mr. Lechmore hath the Chair, do consult with the Committee of the Navy, touching the Relief of the Merchants who have suffered, in being surprised by the Prince; and for securing of Trade.

Persons committed.

Ordered, That James Challenor, Edward Whiteing, and Richard Brett, be, and are hereby, committed to the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms that attends this House, until this House takes further Order.

It is further Ordered, That, upon the Delivery of the Soldiers, the Bark to be discharged.

Wine Licences Office.

Ordered, That, on this Day Sevennight, all the Petitions delivered to this House, touching Mr. Swetnam's Office of the Wine Licence, be read; and taken into Consideration.

Bailing Kindersley.

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Carter, the Justice of Peace that committed Robert Kindersley, now Prisoner in the Gatehouse, to bail the said Robert Kindersley, upon his own Security; or, if he shall find Cause, to discharge him.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has taken their Lordships Message into serious Consideration: And, as to that concerning Finchley Chace, they do agree: To the rest, they will send Answer, by Messengers of their own.

Engagements on Subsidies.

Ordered, That the Committee touching Engagements on the Two Subsidies, granted about May 1641, for Relief of the Northern Parts, be revived: And that Sir John Clotworthy, Mr. Nelthorpe, Colonel Edwards, Sir John Potts, Mr. Povey, Mr. Stephens, Sir Robert Pye, Mr. Pury, Mr. Nichlas, Mr. Francis Gerard, Mr. Thomas, Colonel Barker, be added to the said Committee: And that the said Committee have further Power to send for Persons, Witnesses, Papers, Records, &c.
