Prayers.

Garisons, &c.

ORDERED, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, to take such effectual Course with Farnham Castle, as to put it in that Condition of Indefensibleness, as it may be no Occasion for the Endangering of the Peace of that County; and to take likewise care of Sterborough Castle, Rygate, and Martin Abbey, and other Places of Strength in that County, to put them in such a Condition, that no Use may be made of them, to the Endangering of the Peace of the Kingdom: And the Gentlemen of the Counties of Surrey, Kent, Sussex, and Hants are required to repair to the Committee at Derby House, and give them their best Advice and Assistance, How the Places of Strength in those Counties may be secured from any Danger; and all dangerous Persons secured, and Arms seized; and all Dangerous Meetings prevented and dissolved; and all other fitting Course taken to prevent Disturbances, and preserve the Peace of those Counties.

Message to Lords.

Sir Robert Pye carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Vote for paying all just Debts before any final Conclusion of Peace: Order for the Salary to the Treasurers of sick and maimed Soldiers: Order for One hundred Pounds per Week for sick and maimed Soldiers, out of the Receipts of Excise: Order for the Committee at Derby House to grant Commissions to Major General Skippon, to command, raise, and inlist a Regiment of Horse: Order for raising Five thousand Pounds for that Service: Order for Goldsmiths Hall to give Account touching Ordinances for Delinquents passed: The Vote touching the Three Propositions, in order to a Treaty with the King.

Answer.

Sir Robert Pye brings Answer from the Lords, That, as to the Vote touching the Three Propositions, in order to a Treaty with the King: to the Order for Major General Skippon to command and inlist Horse, and for the Five thousand Pounds for the said Horse; they will send Answer by Messengers of their own: To the rest, they do agree.

Publick Debts.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth resolve and declare, That, before any final Conclusion of a Peace, they will take especial Care to pay or secure all just Debts, and make good all Engagements, to all Persons that either have been, or shall be, engaged for the Parliament.

Publick Accompts.

Ordered, That, on this Day Sevennight, the first Business, peremptorily, the Ordinance in Mr. Scott's Hands, touching all Accomptants bringing in their Accompts by a time certain, be brought in, and read.

Ordered, That, on Thursday next come Sevennight, the first Business, Mr. Peck's Accompts be certified and reported.

Militia.

Sir Robert Harley reports the Amendments to the Ordinance for the General Militia of the Kingdom.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Sir Richard Piggott Knight to be a Commissioner of the Militia for the County of Bucks.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Thomas Tirrell Esquire to be one of the Commissioners of the Militia for the County of Bucks.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Wm. Bowyer Esquire to be one of the Commissioners of the Militia for the County of Bucks.

The Question being put, For adding * Hill Esquire to be one of the Commissioners of the Militia for the County of Salop;

It passed with the Negative.

Upner Castle.

Ordered, That the Lord Admiral be desired to put Guns into Upner Castle, for Defence of that Place.

Militia.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Mathew Alured be added and named a Commissioner for the Militia for the Town of Hull.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Duckenfield the Governor of Chester, Sir Wm. Brereton Knight, Colonel Booth, Peter Warburton, Thomas Stanley, Esquires, be added to the Commissioners for the Militia in the City of Chester.

Resolved, &c. That John Beare Esquire be added a Commissioner for the Militia for Devonshire.

Resolved, &c. That Colonel Welden be added a Commissioner for the Militia for Devonshire, Cornwall, and the City of Exeter.

Resolved, &c. That John Lord Roberts be added and named a Commissioner for the Militia in the City of Exeter.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Wm. Lewes Knight and Baronet, Sir Richard Kingsmill Knight, Henry Wallop Esquire, and Thomas Cole Esquire, be added to the Committee for the Militia in Hampshire.

Resolved, &c. That Henry Sacheverell Esquire, Edward Nevill Esquire, and Charles Dobson Esquire, be added and named Commissioners for the Militia for the County of Nottingham.

Resolved, &c. That Christofer Ridley Esquire be added and named a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of York.

Resolved, &c. That the Lord Viscount Hereford be added and named a Commissioner for the Militia in the County of Suffolk.

Resolved, &c. That the City of Coventry, and County of Warwick, be joined in the Militia, as formerly.

Resolved, &c. That Dr. Wright be added and named a Commissioner for the Militia for Shropshire.

Resolved, &c. That Creswell Taylor and Rowland Hunt Esquires, Thomas Mackworth and Thomas Baker Gentlemen, be added and named Commissioners for the Militia for Shrewsbury in the County of Salop.

The Clause added to the Ordinance for settling the Militia of the Kingdom, for restraining the Raising of Forces, and putting Forces into Garisons, without Authority of both Houses of Parliament, being this Day read, was, upon the Question, re-committed. And

It is Ordered, That the Committee meet this Afternoon at Three of Clock; and bring in the same To-morrow Morning.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Thomas Remington be omitted and left out of the Militia for Yorkshire.

Lords Concurrence desired.

Ordered, That the Lords Concurrence be desired to the Orders of 29 Junii 1648.

A Prisoner discharged.

Ordered, That Colonel Zacharie, indemnifying Mr. Lee, be released out of Prison, and discharged of the Fifty Pounds set upon him by the Committee of Indemnity.
