Army Commissions.

MR. Speaker, according to former Order, before the Sitting of the House, delivered these Commissions following; viz.

Provost-Marshal.

Ordered, That the Sum of Fourscore Pounds be forthwith paid unto Launcelot Emott, Provost-Marshal of Middlesex and Westminster, in Part of his Salary of One hundred Pounds a Year, and Twelve-pence a Day apiece to Six Men to assist him in the said Office, from the 7th of May 1659, by the Council of State: And the Acquittance of the said Launcelot Emott, testifying the Receipt thereof, shall be a sufficient Discharge in that Behalf.

Prize Goods.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Commissioners for the Admiralty to consider, How Prize Goods may be managed, for the best Advantage of the Commonwealth; and to examine, What Monies are due to the Commonwealth for Prize-Goods; and report their Opinion: And that the said Commissioners do visit the Ships taken as Prizes, and brought into Poole; and to take care of the said Ships.

Army Appointments.

The Report, touching George Fines to be Major and Captain in Colonel Henry Lillingston's Regiment; and of other Officers in the said Regiment; viz. George Fines, Major and Captain; Alexander Crawford, Ensign; Thomas Mitchell, Lieutenant to Captain Coke; Richard Wither, Ensign; Herbert Bord, Lieutenant to Captain Landy; Lawrence Fullove, Ensign to Captain Wandell; and George Fitzwilliams, Ensign to Captain Monckton; and, That Major Davies may be Captain of Major Fynes' Company, in Colonel Lockhart's Regiment; and Francis Cooper, to be Master-Gunner of Dunkirk; formerly read; was again read: And the said Officers, being severally put to the Question, were approved of.

Ordered, That Robert Greenewood and Samuell Doughty be re-committed to the Commissioners for the Army; to consider further of them: And that the said Information against the said Samuell Doughty be also referred to the said Commissioners for the Army.

And the rest of the Officers in the said List, being put to the Question, were approved: And It is

Ordered, That Commissions be made forth for them accordingly.

Ordered, That Captain Sylas Taylor be, and is hereby, recommended to the Commissioners for the Army, for some Place in the Army, answerable to his Merit.

Sir Arthur Hesilrig reports, A List of the Names of Officers of Colonel Bethell's Regiment, late MajorGeneral Lambert's: Which was read the First time.

A Report, touching John Stiles, to be Captain in Colonel George Fleetwoode's Regiment; and, That Barnaby Lisle be Ensign in the said Regiment; formerly read; was now read the Second time.

Resolved, That Barnaby Lisle be Ensign in the said Regiment.

Army Appointments.

Ordered, That John Styles be re-committed to the Commissioners for the Army, for further Consideration.

Resolved, That Benjamin Gifford be Major in Colonel Fleetwoode's Regiment, in the place of Major Gold.

Sir Arthur Hesilrig reports, That Ensign Gold be Ensign in the room of Ensign Carey, of Captain West's Company, in Colonel Lenthall's Regiment: Which was read; and approved.

Resolved, That * Johnson be Captain, in the place of Wm. Turner, in Colonel Lenthall's Regiment.

Resolved, That Wm. Turner be Lieutenant, in the place of Richard Johnson, in the same Regiment.

A Report, That Colonel Thomas Eyre be Governor of Hurst-Castle, formerly read, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, It was

A Report, formerly made, That Major Wansey be Governor of the Isle of Guernsey, and Captain of a Company of Foot in the said Island, was again read: And It was

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of plundered Ministers, to put Mr. Brayne into the Place formerly conferred on Mr. Burgesse, of Portsmouth.

Resolved, That Two hundred Pounds a Year, Land of Inheritance, be settled on Colonel Nathaniell Whetham, and his Heirs, as a Mark of the Parliament's Favour, for his eminent Services for the Parliament and Commonwealth.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee to whom the Business touching setting out Lands for General George Monck is referred, to set out Lands, of the yearly Value of Two hundred Pounds, on Colonel Nathaniell Whetham and his Heirs; and to set the same out in some convenient Place.

Army Commissioners.

A Bill, appointing Commissioners for the Government of the Army, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time, Tomorrow Morning.

Grant to Gen. Monck.

Resolved, That the Sum of Ten Pounds a Day be, and is hereby, granted and allowed unto General George Monck, to commence from his coming into England out of Scotland, to continue, until this Parliament take further Order.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Army do pay the said Ten Pounds a Day unto the said General George Monck, accordingly, upon the Establishment of the Army.

Friday, February 10th, 1659. Afternoon.

Letter read.

A LETTER from Lyncolne, of the 8th of February 1659, from Nathaniell Holt, was read.

London Militia.

A Bill for settling the Militia of the City of London was this Day read the Second time.

The Names of Commissioners for the Militia of the City of London, to be inserted into this Bill, were read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That the Proportion be after the Rate of Five-and-thirty thousand Pounds: And that the Rates be, Four thousand Pounds, to find an Horse; Five hundred Pounds, to find a Foot; One hundred Pounds, to pay only Ten Shillings.

Resolved, That this Bill, thus amended, be ingrossed.

Ordered, That Colonel Harvey, Mr. Dove, and Mr. Pury, do prepare a Proviso, to impower the Commissioners to appoint the Persons, Horse and Foot, who are to bear the Arms; and for ascertaining their Wages by the Day.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State to consider What is further to be done for the Safety of the Parliament and City.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider of the Suppressing of seditious Meetings, that tend to the Disturbance of the Peace of the Nation.

Ordered, That all the Forces, Horse and Foot, now in Town, have a Month's Pay: And that the Commissioners of the Army do take care for the Payment thereof accordingly.
