Thursday, the 29th of December, 1659.

Prayers.

Issuing Monies.

ORDERED, That Warrants under the Hands of Richard Lucy, and Jervase Bennett, Esquires, shall be sufficient Warrant to the Treasurers at War, for Issuing out of the Sum of Fifteen thousand Pounds, to be paid to the Soldiery.

Army Committee, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to bring in Names for the Committee of the Army, and Treasurers at War: Viz. Colonel White, Mr. Robinson, and Colonel Fagg.

Transactions with Genl. Monck, &c.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what hath been done by Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Colonel Morley, and Colonel Walton, Three of the Commissioners of the Army for the Parliament; and by Mr. Wallop, Mr. Love, and Mr. Nevill: And that the Thanks of this House be given unto them for their Faithfulness to the Parliament, and Care taken for the Good and Benefit of the Commonwealth: And the House doth likewise approve of what the said Commissioners have done in displacing Officers; and confirm such Officers as they have appointed, either for Army or Navy.

Mr. Speaker did give unto them the hearty Thanks of the Parliament accordingly.

Ordered, That Sir Arthur Hesilrig, Colonel Morley, and Colonel Walton, do bring in a Note of what Monies they have disbursed; to the end that a Course may be taken for the speedy Reimbursing of them.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what General Monck hath done in Placing and Displacing of Officers. And It is

Ordered, That the said respective Officers, placed by General Monck, be and are hereby confirmed in their respective Offices and Places.

Ordered, That the hearty Thanks of this House be given unto General Monck, for his Fidelity and faithful Service.

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be sent to General Monck; and that the same be signed and sealed by Mr. Speaker, with the Seal of the Parliament: And that Mr. Scott and Mr. Martyn do draw the same.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what was done by so many of the Council of State, and such as acted with them, as acted for the Service of the Parliament, during the Time of the late Interruption of the Parliament; viz. by Mr. Scott, Mr. Weaver, Colonel Fagg, Mr. Nevill, Mr. Tho. Challoner, Mr. Solicitor Reynolds, Colonel White, Colonel Dove, Colonel Eyre, Colonel James Temple, Mr. Say, Mr. Garland, Mr. Corbet, Mr. Robinson: And that the hearty Thanks of this House be given unto them, for their good and faithful Service done for the Parliament and Commonwealth.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what hath been done by Colonel Fagg: And that he have the Thanks of this House for his good Service.

Mr. Speaker did give them all the hearty Thanks of this House accordingly.

Resolved, That this House doth approve of what Mr. Speaker hath done, in the Time of the late Interruption: And that the hearty Thanks of this House be given to Mr. Speaker for his very good Service done for the Commonwealth.

Ordered, That the hearty Thanks of this House be given to Vice-Admiral Lawson, and all the Commanders and Officers of the Fleet for their Fidelity and great good Service done for the Parliament and Commonwealth: And that Mr. Solicitor Reynolds and Mr. Scott repair to Vice-Admiral Lawson, and Commanders of the Fleet, from the Parliament, to present these Votes, and Letters of Thanks, unto them, from the Parliament; and to let them know, That the House will take care for the Payment of their Arrears in due time: And Mr. Scot and Mr. Solicitor Reynolds are to prepare the said Letters.

Ordered, That the Thanks of this House be given to Colonel Whetham, and his Officers, for their Fidelity and great good Service done for the Parliament and Commonwealth: And that a Letter of Thanks be written to him, and signed by Mr. Speaker, and sealed with the Seal of the Parliament: And that Mr. Scot and Mr. Reynolds do prepare the said Letter.

Fast Day.

Resolved, That Wednesday next be set apart and observed, by the Members of this House, in this House, for Fasting and Humiliation, and for Acknowledgment of God's Mercy, with Thankfulness; and for Prayer for his further Blessing upon the Counsels of the Parliament, and Assistance in carrying on the great Work lying on their Hands.

Ordered, That Mr. Burgesse of Portsmouth be desired to assist in carrying on the Work of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer, on that Day.

Colonel Morley to give him Notice hereof.

Ordered, That Mr. Venning be desired to assist in carrying on the Work of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer, on that Day.

Mr. Say to give him Notice.

Resolved, That there shall be a greater Number than Two to carry on the Work of that Day.

Ordered, That Mr. Jenkins be desired to assist in carrying on the Work of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer, on that Day.

Mr. Corbet to give him Notice.

Thanks to Col. Rich, &c.

Resolved, That the Thanks of this House be given to Colonel Rich, for his good Service done for the Parliament and Commonwealth: And that he give the Thanks of this House to Major Bremen, and other Officers of his Regiment, as did faithful Service for the Parliament.

Mr. Speaker did give Colonel Rich the Thanks of this House for his good Service, accordingly: And desired him to give the Thanks of this House to Major Bremen, and other Officers of his Regiment, according to the Vote of this House.

Prayers.

The Question being propounded, That the Ministers that are appointed to preach, by Turns, in the Abbey-Church, and Dr. Holmes, shall pray, by Turns, every Morning with the Parliament;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Negative.

Council of State.

Resolved, That a Council of State be nominated.

Resolved, That the Number of the Council of State be One-and-thirty.

Resolved, That One-and-twenty of them shall be Members of this House.

Resolved, That Ten of them shall be Persons to be chosen by this House, that are not Members of this House.

The Engagement.

Resolved, That the Committee concerning the Engagement be revived: And that the Engagement be brought in To-morrow Morning.

Army.

Ordered, That the Order of this House, of the 27th of December instant, prohibiting Raising of Forces, and for disbanding such as have been raised without Authority of Parliament, be forthwith printed, and published.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Commissioners for Management of the Army, to dispose of the Militia-Forces, and of all other Forces which have been raised without Authority of Parliament, as they shall see Cause, either by Employing or Disbanding of them; with Power to dispose of their Arms to the several Counties and publick Magazines from whence they were taken.
