Prayers.

Leave of Absence.

ORDERED, That Leave be, and is hereby, granted unto Colonel Hutchinson to go into the Country for Twenty Days, from the Time of his going out of Town.

Ordered, That Leave be, and is hereby, granted to Symon Meyne Esquire, a Member of Parliament, for Eight Days, to attend a Tryal, at the Assizes for the County of Bucks.

Delinquents Estate.

A Bill touching the Sale of the Estate of Cutchbert Morley, forfeited to the Commonwealth for Treason, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for the Admiralty and Navy have hereby the same Powers given and vested in them, as to the Ordering and Sale of the Residue of the Estate of Cuthbert Morley Esquire, yet unsold and undisposed of, as the Committee of the Navy had given unto them, by the Act for Sale of several Lands and Estates, forfeited to the Commonwealth for Treason; and according to the Direction and Intention of the said Act.

Militia Commissioners.

The Question being propounded, That Thomas Sylliard, Geo. Payne, Norton Curtis, Wm. Maddox, Geo. Cadwell, Esquiers, * Luke, of Goodhurst Esquire, Gervase Maplesden Mayor of Maidstone, Robert Heath, James Alleyne, Tho. Taylor, John Ruffyne, John Wecke, Harman Sheafe, Joshua Pye, Gentlemen, Henry Hall Esquire, and Farnham Aldersey Gentlemen, be added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Kent;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That Thomas Syllyard, Geo. Payne, Norton Curtisse, Wm. Maddox, Geo. Cadwell, Esquires, * Luke, of Goodhurst, Esquire, Gervase Mapplesden Mayor of Maidstone, Robert Heath, James Allyne, Tho. Taylor, John Ruffyn, John Weeke, Harman Shease, Joshua Pyx, Gentleman, Henry Hall Esquire, and Farnham Aldersey Gentleman, be, and are hereby added Commissioners for the Militia in the County of Kent: And they are hereby impowered and authorized to act as fully, to all Intents and Purposes, as if they had been named Commissioners, in the Act for settling the Militia in England and Wales; and as fully as any Commissioners named in the said Act are thereby enabled and impowered to do.

Militia Appointments.

A List of Names of Commission-Officers for the Militia in the County of Nottingham was read: And the said Officers, being put to the Question, were approved; and were as followeth; viz.

Henry Champion, Captain of Horse; Tho. Nix, Lieutenant; * Brand, Cornet; Tho. Poole, Quartermaster.

Robert Kerbey, Captain of Horse; Robert Malyn, Lieutenant; Richard Parneham, Cornet; John Greene, Quarter-master.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider of the County-Troop for Nottinghamshire, How they may be ordered in the Militia of the said County.

Another List of Names of Commission-Officers for the Militia in the said County of Nottingham was read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto, and approved; and was as followeth; viz.

Robert Sherbrooke Esquire, Captain of a Troop of Horse; John Gunthorpe Gentleman, Lieutenant; John Truman, Cornet; Christofer Johnson, Quarter-master of the same Troop.

Tho. Lupton Gentleman, Captain of a Troop of Horse; Nath. Foster Gentleman, Lieutenant; Ralph Vaux, Cornet; Fra. Medley, Quarter-master.

Joshua Silvester Gentleman, Captain of a Company of Dragoons; * Lee, his Lieutenant; Joseph Need, Cornet; Wm. Medley, Quarter-master.

Clement's Market.

A Bill for establishing a common, open, and free Market in Lincolne's-Inn Fields was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Colonel Lister, Alderman Atkins, Sir Tho. Wroth, Alderman Pennington, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Solicitor Reynolds, Mr. Martin, Mr. West, Mr. Cawley, Colonel Bingham, Sir Richard Lucy, Sir Wm. Brereton, Mr. Darley, Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Millington, Sir Hen. Mildmay, Colonel Dove, Mr. Anlaby, Mr. Chaloner, Colonel Heyes, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Leman, Mr. Garland; or any Five of them: And are to meet, on Tuesday in the Afternoon, in the Duchy-Court.

Embassy from France.

Mr. Speaker acquaints the House, That he had received Letters of Credence from the King of Fraunce.

A Letter from Monsieur De Bourdeaux, Lord Ambassador of the King of France, to Mr. Speaker, was read.

Letters of Credence to the said Lord Ambassador from the King of France, directed, "To our most dear and great Friends the Parliament of the Republick of England, of Scotland, and of Ireland," &c. Signed, "Lovis," dated the 9th of August, 1659, was read.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Weston, a Member of this House, have Leave to go into Yorkeshire.

Letters read.

Major Salwey reports from the Council of State, A Letter from Major Wareing, from Shrewsbury, of the 10th of August 1659: And a Letter from Major Creed, of the 10th of August 1659, from Drayton, in Shropshire: An Extract of a Letter sent to Lieutenant-General Fleetwood, of the 10th of August 1659: And also, A Letter from the Lord Lambert, from Coventry, of the 10th of August 1659: Which were all read.

Volunteers.

Ordered, That the Troops and Companies that have been raised or commissionated by the Council of State, or that have come in voluntarily to assist the Parliament in this Time of Danger, be preferred, and taken into the Militias in the several Counties and Places of this Commonwealth: And that the Pleasure of the Parliament herein be speedily signified to the respective Commissioners for the Militia. And the Council of State is to take care, that the Premises be put in due Execution, accordingly.

Wareing thanked.

Ordered, That the Thanks of this House be given to Major Wareing, for his good Service done for the Commonwealth.

Army Appointment.

Resolved, That Major Wareing be, and is hereby nominated and appointed to be Governor of the Castle and Town of Shrewsbury: And that Colonel Morley do prepare a Commission for him to be Governor thereof; as also a Letter of Thanks, for his good Service to the Commonwealth, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, accordingly.

Persons absent in time of danger.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to give Instructions to the Commissioners for the Militias in the respective Counties, to inquire, and inform themselves, What Gentlemen, Ministers, and others, have absented themselves from their Houses, or been out of the Countries or Cities, in this Time of Danger, and where they have been; and make Return of their Names to the Council of State; And that the Council do report the same to this House.

Isle of Wight Militia.

Mr. Chaloner reports from the Council of State, An Act for the managing the Militia in the Isle of Wight: Which was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Sir Henry Mildmay, Colonel Sydenham, Sir Hen. Vane, Colonel Dove, Mr. Lenthall, Colonel Rich, Mr. Robinson, Sir Ja. Harrington, Mr. Wallop, Mr. Trenchard, Colonel Marten, Mr. West, Sir Tho. Wroth, Colonel Morley, Colonel White, Mr. Garland, Mr. Ralegh, Mr. Nevill, Mr. Lemon; or any Five of them: And are to meet, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Sir Henry Vane reports, a Letter from Mr. Downing, dated, Hague, 17 August 1659: And a Letter from Colonel Sydney from the Sound, of the * * *: Which were read.

Major Bull.

Resolved, That Major Bull be, and is hereby, discharged of his Command in the Isle of Wight.
