Prayers.

E. of Pembrooke's Petition.

THE humble Petition of Phillip Earl of Pembrooke was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the Petition of Mr. Solicitor Reynolds is referred; to examine the Business; state the Matter of Fact; and report it to this House, with their Opinion therein: And that Sir Henry Mildmay, Sir Henry Vane, Major Salwey, Colonel Lister, Colonel Martin, Mr. Holland, Colonel Hutchinson, Sir Tho. Wroth, Mr. Say, Colonel Thompson, Mr. Love, Mr. Nevill, Colonel Harvey, Colonel Birch, Mr. Trenchard, Lord St. John, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Scott, Mr. Blagrave, Mr. Brewster, be added to that Committee.

Embassy from Portugall.

Resolved, That the Lord Ambassador from the King of Portugall have Audience on Thursday next.

Indemnity.

The House resumed the Debate upon the Bill of Indemnity.

Resolved, That these Words, "and before the First Day of June 1659," be added in the enacting Clause, to make good Fines, &c. next after the Words ". . . ."

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Vane, a Member of this House, have Leave to go into the Country for a Week, from the Time of his going out of Town.

Indemnity.

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "many of;" be added, in the Preamble, next after the Words "Hearts of."

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "of the Age of Sixteen Years, and being of sane Memory;" be added, in the First Line, in the Proviso for subscribing the Declaration, next after the Word "Person," in the First Line.

An enacting Clause was tendered to this Bill, to prohibit the Suing of Persons who have paid Sums of Money by Acts and Orders of a Committee of Parliament, was this Day read the First time:

And the Question being put, That this Clause be read the Second time.

It passed with the Negative.

A Proviso was tendered to this Bill, "That this Act shall not extend to indemnify any Person who imprisoned Major General Overton, &c.:" Which was read the First time:

And the Question be . . . . put, That the same be read the Second time;

It passed with the Negative.

Army Appointment.

Ordered, That Mr. John Streater be recommended to the Commissioners for Nomination of Commission Officers, for to be nominated for some Employment in the Army in Ireland.

Indemnity.

A Proviso was tendered to this Act, "To except Alderman Pack, and his Confederates, out of this Act, for, in, and towards his Setting up of a Single Person."

And the Question being put, That this Proviso be read;

It passed with the Negative.

A Proviso was tendered, "To except Alderman Robert Titchborne, and others, concerning the illegal Commitment of John Streater Gentleman, Prisoner to the Gatehouse, Westminster; and his Detention there."

And the Question being put, That this Proviso be read;

It passed with the Negative.

Articles against Petty.

Articles of High Misdemeanors, Frauds, Breach of Trusts, and several other Crimes, presented against Doctor Wm. Petty, by Colonel Jerome Zankey, were tendered to the Parliament.

Ordered, That the said Articles be referred to the Commissioners for managing the Government in Ireland, to examine the several particular Misdemeanors, Frauds, Breach of Trusts, and several other Crimes, in the said Articles charged and mentioned: And the said Commissioners, or any Three or more of them, are hereby fully authorized to hear and determine the same.

Indemnity.

A Clause was tendered to be made Part of this Act, "That every Person intended to be indemnified by this Act, to pay Forty Shillings for the Use of the Commonwealth, &c.:" Which Clause was read the First time.

And the Question being put, That this Clause be read the Second time;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That the Word "Jury" do stand in the Clause, in the Bill, giving Power to Judges to indemnify Persons.

Resolved, That this Clause; viz. "at such Days and Times, as the Committee for Inspection of the Treasuries shall think fit; or, otherwise, that the said Farmers shall have no Benefit of this present Act;" be added, at the End of the Proviso Yesterday tendered, and Twice read, for excepting the Farmers of the Excise and New Impost, who are . . Arrear with their Rents, out of this Act.

Resolved, That this Proviso be Part of this Bill.

And the said Bill, so amended, being put to the Question, passed.

Ordered, That this Act be printed and published.
