Saturday, the 25th of June, 1659.

Oxford, &c. Custos Rotulorum.

WHEREAS William Lenthall, Speaker of the Parliament, and Master of the Rolls, was, during the time of this present Parliament, constituted and appointed Custos Rotulorum of the several Counties of Oxford and Berks; It is now

Ordered, by the Parliament, That the said William Lenthall be, and he is hereby, continued Custos Rotulorum of both the said several Counties, as fully, amply, and beneficially, as any Custos Rotulorum enjoys the same.

Essex Ditto.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Mildmay be, and he is hereby, constituted and continued Custos Rotulorum of the County of Essex, as fully and beneficially as any Custos Rotulorum enjoyed the same.

Plundered Ministers.

Ordered, That it be referred back to the said Committee of plundered Ministers, to consider of something upon the Debate of this House; and forthwith report it to this House for their Consideration: And that Mr. Lechmere, Mr. Robinson, Mr. Corbet, Mr. Oldsworth, Mr. Say, Colonel Birch, Colonel Gurden, be added to that Committee.

Petition from Berwick.

The humble Petition of the Mayor, Bailiffs, and Burgesses of the Borough of Berwick upon Tweed, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Petitioners have the Thanks of this House: And Sir Thomas Widdrington is desired to return them the Thanks of this House, accordingly.

Union with Scotland.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Members of this House, of the Council of State, to prepare and present a new Bill to this House, for perfecting the Union between England and Scotland, in Pursuance of the former Declaration of this Parliament, and the Grounds formerly declared by them.

Irish Officers.

Sir Arthur Hesilrig reports from the Commissioners appointed to nominate Officers, The Names of Officers to command in Ireland: Which were read.

Ordered, That this Report be taken into Consideration on Monday Morning next.

Army Appointments.

He also reports, Colonel John Desbrowe to be Colonel of a Regiment, and the Names of Officers of that Regiment.

He also reports, Colonel William Packer to be Colonel of a Regiment; and the Names of Officers of that Regiment.

He also reports, Colonel Richard Mosse to be Colonel of a Regiment; and the Names of Officers of that Regiment.

He also reports, Colonel John Mason to be Governor of Jersey.

He also reports, That Dr. Cartwright be JudgeAdvocate of the Army in England:

And that * Margaretts be Judge-Advocate of the Army in Scotland:

And that Major Wm. Butler, be Quarter-master General.

Ordered, That this Report be taken into Consideration on Monday Morning next.

Impresting Seamen.

Ordered, That Colonel Walton, Colonel Thompson, do withdraw, about the perfecting the Amendments to the Act for impresting Seamen.

Excise Officers Salaries.

Colonel White reports from the Commissioners for bringing in the Arrears of Excise, &c. touching the Payment of Salaries demanded by several Officers employed by Commissioners of Excise, in Broad-street, London, for the Quarter ending the 24th of June 1659.

Ordered, That it be referred back to the said Commissioners, to consider of the Officers and Salaries; and what Officers and Salaries are fit to be retrenched; and report the Names of the Officers to this House, to whom they think fit to continue Salaries.

Negociations with Sweden, &c.

Sir Henry Vane reports from the Council of State, A summary Account of the Treaty which hath been had, according to their Order, with the Envoys of Sweden; and also the Dutch Ambassador; and the Matters that the Committee of the Council were ordered to treat and confer with him on.

The Question being propounded, That it be referred back to the Council of State, to hasten away the Plenipotentiaries; and to give them Instructions to endeavour to settle Peace between the Two Northern Kings; and, as Occasion shall arise, for the Interest of this Nation, the Council be impowered to give Instructions for an active Assistance; or for Return of the Fleet, if they shall see Cause;

And the Question being put, That these Words; viz. "or for Return of the Fleet, if they shall see Cause;" be Part of this Question;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Impresting Seamen.

Colonel Thompson reports Amendments to the Bill for impresting Seamen: Which were read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "the First of December 1659;" be inserted, instead of these Words; viz. "for one whole Year."

And the said Amendments, so amended, being put to the Question, were agreed unto.

Resolved, That this Bill, thus amended, be ingrossed.
