Monday, the 1st of February, 1657.

Journals.

MR. Bond reports from the Committee to whom the Perusal of the Inventory to be made of the Journal-Books, Records, and Writings, belonging to this House, was referred, The Opinion of the said Committee, That this House be moved to add the Word "Acts," and the Word "Ordinances," to the Order of the 26th of January last, concerning the Journal-Books, Records, and Writings belonging to this House, after the Word "Records;" and that the said Order be renewed.

Resolved, That the Word "Acts," and the Word "Ordinances," be added to the said Order, after the Word "Records."

Ordered, That the Committee formerly appointed do look into and peruse the Inventory that is to be made of the Journal-Books, Records, Acts, Ordinances, and Writings that do belong to this House, and are now in the Custody of Mr. Scobell, in the Tower within his House, and which are to be delivered by him to the Clerk of this House: And that the said Committee, or any Three of them, do meet, as formerly; and take care concerning the Delivery of them, accordingly.

Upon Mr. Bond's further Report from the said Committee;

Resolved, That the boarded House within the Court of Requests, and the Room thereto adjoining, towards the Inner Court of Wards, be the Place for the Laying-up and Keeping of the Journal-Books, Records, Acts, Ordinances, and Writings belonging to this House, which are to be delivered, by Mr. Scobell, to the Clerk of this House.

Prisoner to be brought to the Bar.

Resolved, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this House do bring John Browne, now a Prisoner in his Custody, to the Bar of this House, at the First Sitting of the House To-morrow Morning.

Call of the House.

The House, according to former Order, did this Day proceed to call over the Names of the Members returned to serve in this House: And every Member present, as he was called, stood up, and answered to his Name.

The Defaulters were again called over: And such as were absent, by reason of Sickness; or were, upon Reasons now shewed, excused; an Entry was made at their several Names, accordingly.

Resolved, That in all Cases where there are Double Returns, or more, for one and the same Place, none that are so returned, unless they be named in both or all the Returns, do sit, until the House have first determined touching the said Returns or Elections.

Resolved, That the Committee of Privileges do examine and determine Elections upon Double Returns, or more, in the First place; and report the same to the House with all the Speed that may be.

Resolved, That the Clerk of this House do write out the Names of the Persons and Places where there are Double Returns; and set the same up without, on the Door of this House.

Resolved, That an Order be sent to the several Sheriffs of the several Counties, to summon the several Members that are absent, and have this Day made Default, to give their respective Attendances in the House.

Resolved, That the Time for the Members that are returned to serve for Ireland to attend by, be Six Weeks from this Day.

That the Time for the Members that are returned to serve for Scotland to attend by, be One Month from this Day.

That the Time for the Members that are returned to serve for any the Counties of, or Places within England, and beyond the River of Trent, or for the Counties of Devon and Cornewall, or any Places within either of those Counties, or for Wales, to attend by, be Three Weeks from this Day.

That the Time for the Members that are returned to serve for any other Counties or Places within England, and within Eighty Miles Distance from the City of London, to attend by, be Fourteen Days from this Day.

That the Time for the Members that are returned to serve for any other the Counties or Places within England, and within Fifty Miles Distance from the City of London, to attend by, be Eight Days from this Day.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth allow of the Excuses that have been made for those Members that have been this Day excused in the House, for their Absence respectively for this Time.

Resolved, &c. That the Debate, which was appointed to be this Day taken up, after the Calling of the House, be adjourned until To-morrow Morning, at Eight of the Clock.
