Thursday, 28th January, 1657.

Proceedings concerning Cooke, &c.

ORDERED, That the Report in the Case, touching Colonel Cooke and the Lord St. John, be made on this Day Sevennight; and that the Proceedings in the Exchequer in the Cause wherein Roswell is Plaintiff, and Fursden is Defendant, be stayed in the mean time.

Fish Trade.

Resolved, That the late Act of this present Parliament, touching the Trade of Fishing, be referred to the Committee of Trade; to look into it, and give an Account thereof to this House; and that they do also consider of the Bonds that have been taken, for Payment of the Duty appointed to be paid by Englishmen, by the said Act: And do meet this Afternoon, in the usual Place; and make their Report herein, to the House, on Saturday Morning: And that Process be forborne to be issued upon the Recognizances taken in his Highness' Exchequer, upon any Writs of Delivery sued forth from thence, upon any Seizure of the said Fish, for not Payment of the said Duty by Englishmen.

Distribution of Collection.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, to dispose of the Monies Yesterday collected for the Poor; and that he make an Inventory of the Names of such poor honest Persons, amongst whom the same shall be distributed; and shew the same to some of the Members of the House, for their Approbation.

Protector's Speech reported.

Mr. Speaker did this Day, according to former Order, report the Speech made by his Highness the Lord Protector, to his Two Houses of Parliament, on Monday the Twenty-fifth of this Month, in the Banqueting-House at Whitehall.

And further, That his Highness desired, That this House should be acquainted, That his Highness intended to have imparted to them a Paper concerning the State of the publick Monies; which he had not then ready with him; but that the House should have it, whenever they should desire the same.

Resolved, That his Highness be moved, That he would be pleased to give Directions for the Printing of his Highness' Speech, made by him, in the Banqueting-House at Whitehall, on Monday the Twenty-fifth of this Instant January: And that a Committee be named, to attend his Highness, accordingly: Viz. Mr. Trevor, Major Beake, Mr. Dunch, Sir Arthur Haslerigg, Colonel Thistlethwaite, Captain Hatsell, Captain Mildmay, Sir Tho. Rous, MajorGeneral Haynes, Major Owen, Mr. Chute, Sir Tho. Style, Mr. Darley, Colonel Birch. Colonel Weldon, Colonel Wood, Mr. Scott, Mr. Bennett, Sir Anth. Ashley Cooper, Colonel Salmon, Mr. Natha. Bacon, Mr. Wyndham, Colonel Rous, Colonel Puresoy, Mr. Noell, Colonel Shapcote, Mr. Bond, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Drake, Mr. Onslow, Sir John Trevor, Mr. St. Nicholas, Sir Jo. Copplestone, Mr. Swynton, Sir Throp. Jones, Mr. Barington, Major Saunders, Mr. Delanoy, Sir Tho. Foote, Colonel Carter, Mr. Biddolph, Mr. Luttrell, Sir James M' Dowell:. And are to meet in the Speaker's Chamber this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock; and from thence to go to Whitehall, to his Highness.

Resolved, That this Committee be impowered to move his Highness to communicate, and deliver to them, the Paper concerning the State of the publick Monies mentioned by him in the Banqueting House on Monday last.

Resolved, That this Committee do acquaint his Highness, That this House will take the Matters imparted to them by his Highness, in his Speech at the BanquetingHouse, into serious and speedy Consideration.

Collingwood, &c.

The Information of Robert Ogle of Eslington in the County of Northumberland, Gentleman, against Sir Robert Collingwood, and others was this Day again read.

Private Business.

The Question being put, That no private Business be taken into Consideration by this House for One Month;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

So it was Resolved, That no private Business be taken into Consideration by this House for One Month.

Answer to Message from Other House.

Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning, take into Consideration what Answer they will return to the Message brought from the Other House by Mr. Justice Wyndham and Mr. Baron Hill on Friday last.
