Petition and Advice.

THE Lord Commissioner Whitelock, reports from the Committee to whom it was referred to prepare Reasons to be given to his Highness the Lord Protector, for insisting upon the humble Petition and Advice presented to his Highness: Which were read.

Resolved, That the House doth agree with the Committee in this, That these shall be the Reasons presented to his Highness, for their adhering to their Petition and Advice formerly presented; viz.

"That the Parliament having lately presented their humble Petition and Advice to your Highness, whereunto they have not as yet received Satisfaction; and the Matters contained in that Petition and Advice, being agreed upon by the Great Council and Representative of the Three Nations; and which, in their Judgments, are most conducing to the Good of the People thereof, both in their Spiritual and Civil Concernments; they have therefore thought fit to adhere to this Advice; and to put your Highness in mind of the great Obligation which rests upon you, in respect of this Advice; and again to desire you to give your Assent thereunto."

Resolved, That a Committee be appointed, to desire his Highness to appoint a Time and Place for the House to attend his Highness, upon some Business of great Importance: viz. Lord Broghill, Colonel Jones, Mr. Secretary, General Disbrow, General Mountagu, Mr. Burton, Mr. Bennett, Lord Chief Justice Glyn, Lord Whitelock, Colonel Cooper, Major Owen, Colonel Chadwick, Lord Strickland, Sir Rich. Onsloe, Colonel Purefoy, Mr. Williams, Mr. Recorder of London, Mr. Fowell, Master of the Rolls, Colonel Carter, Mr. Bodurda, Captain Lilborne, Mr. Moody, Lord Cockram, Lord Provost of Edenburgh, Colonel Fowk, Major-General Goff, Mr. Disbrow, Lord Commissioner Lisle, Major-General Whalley, Mr. Downing, Sir Edwards Rhodes, Sir Theop. Jones, Mr. Bedford, Sir Christofer Pack, Sir Wm. Roberts, Mr. Sheild, Sir Charles Wolsley, Alderman Foot, Major Aston, Sir Richard Lucy, Mr. Ch. Lloyd, Mr. Cromwell, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Rhodes, Mr. Pedley, Mr. Price, Colonel Wilton, Mr. Highland, Mr. Tigh, Captain Mason: To meet forthwith in the Speaker's Chamber.

Adjournment.

Resolved, That the House be adjourned till Two of the Clock this Afternoon.

Tuesday, the 7th of April, 1657; in the Afternoon.

Protector appoints to be attended.

THE Lord Chief Justice reports from the Committee appointed this Day to attend his Highness; That the said Committee did accordingly attend his Highness, who was pleased to appoint To-morrow Three of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Banquetting House at Whitehall, to meet with the Parliament.

Adjournment.

Resolved, That the House be adjourned till To-morrow, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon; and that then all the Members of the House that are in Town do attend the Service of the House.

And the House adjourned, accordingly.
