Thursday, the 19th of February, 1656.

Hornchurch Parish.

A BILL for dividing the Parish and Vicarage of Hornchurch in the County of Essex, into several Parishes and Vicarages, for the Ease and Conveniency of the People; and for endowing the Vicarages, and raising an additional Maintenance for Ministers of Vicars of Romford, and Havering; was this Day read the First time.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Mr. Luke Robinson have Leave to go into the Country.

Restraining Buildings.

Ordered, That Mr. Pedley be added to the Committee for Building: And that the Committee do sit this Afternoon.

House to sit.

Ordered, That this House do meet and sit at Eight of the Clock every Morning.

Ways and Means.

Ordered, That at Ten of the Clock every Day the House will take the Business of Money into Consideration.

Reports.

Resolved, That every Morning, after a private Bill read, the House do receive Reports from Committees till Ten of the Clock.

Relief of Edwards, &c.

An additional Bill for the Ascertaining and effectual Setting forth the Lands and Houses in Ireland, in Consideration of Losses sustained by Anthony Edwards, and other the well-affected Inhabitants of the City of Gloucester, was this Day read the Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to Major Aston, Captain Crofts, Doctor Clarges, Captain Halsey, Mr. Nest, Mr. Bond, Sir Rich. Onsloe, Mr. Atkins, Mr. Margetts, Mr. Bisse, Master of the Rolls, General Disbrow, Mr. Throckmorten, Mr. Waller, Mr. Gyles, Captain Hatsell, Colonel Edward, Major-General Whalley, Mr. Lloyd, Judge Advocate Whalley, Mr. Collins, Mr. Highland, Captain Scotton, Mr. Pert, Mr. Dunch, Sir Christofer Pack, Mr. Berkley, Major-General Jephson, Colonel Hewson, Captain Mason, Major Morgan, Colonel Cowper, Mr. Pury, Major Wagstaff, Mr. Bampfeild, Colonel White, Lord Evers, Colonel Bridges, Colonel Zanchy, Mr. Lister, Colonel Carter: And are to meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock in the Duchy-Court.

Prisoners and Creditors.

Ordered, That the Bill for Prisoners and Creditors, be read the Second time on Monday next.

Chancery Court.

The Question being put, That the Report touching the Chancery, and the new Rules there, be made on Tuesday next;

Seditious Books.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do grant his Warrant, to seize upon such seditious and Popish Books as the Committee shall appoint under the Hand of the Chairman.

Assessment.

A Bill for an Assessment upon England, at the Rate of Sixty thousand Pounds by the Month, for Three Months, from the 25th of March 1657 to the 24th of June then next ensuing, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time on Saturday Morning next.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee.

Raising Money.

The House, according to former Order, was now resolved into a Grand Committee, upon the Raising of Four hundred thousand Pounds.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Downing took the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Downing reports, from the said Grand Committee, a Bill for the Assessment on Scotland; and that they desire Leave to sit on Tuesday next.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee on Tuesday next, upon the Business of Four hundred thousand Pounds.

Assessment for Scotland.

Resolved, That the Bill for the Assessment for Scotland be read on Tuesday next.

Recusants.

Resolved, That the Report of the Bill for Recusants be made on Monday.

Petition from a Person in custody.

The humble Petition of Anthony Hilary, a Prisoner in Newgate, was this Day read; and was as followeth:

Most humbly sheweth,

THAT whereas by the Instigation of several Persons, your Petitioner did exhibit to your Honours certain Articles, in nature of a Charge of Delinquency, and other Matters, against Thomas Burton Esquire, a Member of Parliament; which the Petitioner doth now positively recant, with a hearty and unfeigned Remorse for the same; for that your Petitioner is now fully convinced and satisfied in his Conscience, that he hath injured and wronged the said Mr. Burton by the Exhibition of the Articles aforesaid:

Your Petitioner humbly desires your Honours would be pleased, upon his Recantation and Acknowlegement of the Wrongs aforesaid, to grant him a full and absolute Release forth of the said Prison of Newgate. And he shall pray, &c.

Resolved, That the said Anthony Hilary be discharged of his said Imprisonment: And that the Keeper of Newgate do discharge him, accordingly.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Mr. Stanley have Leave to go into the Country.
