Wednesday, the 11th of February, 1656.

Totnes Ministers.

A BILL for the Promoting and more frequent Preaching of the Gospel, and Maintenance of a godly Minister in the Town of Totnes in the County of Devon, was this Day read the First Time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time on Monday Morning next.

Leave for a Member to be Mayor.

Resolved, That Alderman Dickenson, a Member of this House, being chosen Mayor for the City of York, have the Leave of this House to accept of the said Office; and that his Attendance in this House be dispensed withal.

Lucy's Petition.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom the Petition of Sir Richard Lucy is referred, shall have Power to send for Persons, Papers, and Witnesses.

Proceedings concerning Cole.

Resolved, That Saturday next be appointed for the House to have an Account concerning the Execution of their Orders in the Case of Rodney and Cole: And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal, and the Judges, who are Members of this House, do then attend the Service of the House.

Sequestered Livings.

Resolved, That Friday next the Report be made of the Amendments to the Bill for settling Ministers in sequestered Livings.

Winchester Cathedral.

Resolved, That Leave be given for bringing in a Bill for bestowing the Cathedral Church at Winchester on the City, for preaching the Gospel there.

York Court of Law.

Ordered, That the Report of Amendments to the Bill for York be made on Friday Morning next: And that then also the humble Petition of the Inhabitants of the Counties of Nottingham and Derby be read.

Catechism.

Resolved, That the Bills for the better Observation of the Sabbath, and for Catechising, be read on this Day Sevennight.

Assessments, &c.

The House, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, for preparing a Bill for the Assessments.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Downing called to the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Downing reports from the Committee of the whole House, That the said Committee desire Leave of the House to sit again To-morrow.

Resolved, That To-morrow Morning the House be resolved into a Grand Committee, upon the Act of Excise.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee, on Friday next, upon the Business of raising Four hundred thousand Pounds.
