Monday, the 2d of February, 1656.

Thanksgiving Day.

MR. Drake reports from the Committee appointed to attend his Highness the Lord Protector, for his Consent to the Declaration touching the Thanksgiving, That, having attended on his Highness with the said Declaration, his Highness hath given his full and free Consent thereunto.

Ordered, That the Declaration for a Day of Thanksgiving, on the Twentieth of February Instant, be forthwith printed and published; and that the same be sent to the Sheriffs of the respective Counties and Shires: Who are required to take care, That the same be delivered to the Ministers of the respective Parishes and Congregations.

Ordered, That it be recommended to the Council, and that they be desired to give Order for the sending abroad the Declaration for the Thanksgiving through England, Scotland, and Ireland.

Hayes', &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of Colonel John Hayes, and others, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Committee for Trade, to examine the Matters therein contained; and report the State thereof, with their Opinion, to the House: And that the Committee be impowered, in case all Parties do consent, finally to determine this Business between them.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Colonel Markham have Leave to go into Ireland.

Vasall's Petition.

The humble Petition of Samuell Vasall Esquire was this Day read.

Grant to Gen. Monck.

Mr. Downing reports Amendments to the Bill for Settling of the Barony of Kaniell, and other Lands in Scotland, in pursuance of several Orders of Parliament, on General George Monck: Which were twice read.

The humble Petition of Elizabeth Duchess of Hamilton, Relict of William late Duke of Hamilton, and of the Ladies Anne, Elizabeth, Mary, and Margarett, their Four Daughters, was this Day read.

Resolved, That the House doth agree with the Committee in the Amendments now read.

Resolved, That this Bill, with these Amendments, be ingrossed.

The Question being propounded, That the Petition of Elizabeth Duchess of Hamilton, Relict of William late Duke of Hamilton, and of the Ladies Anne, Elizabeth, Mary, and Margaret, their Four Daughters, be referred to the Committee, to whom this Bill was referred, to examine the Matter contained therein, and to settle an Agreement between the Parties concerned, if they can; if not, then to make a Report of their Opinion to the House;

And the Question being put, That these Words, "and the Report shall be made upon this Petition, when the ingrossed Bill shall be read," be Part of this Question;

The House was divided.

Earl of Abbercorne's Petition.

Resolved, That the Petition of James Earl of Abbercorne be read.

The said Petition was read accordingly; and was intituled, "The humble Petition of James Earl of Abbercorne."

Dukes of Hamilton's Creditors.

The humble Petition of many distressed Creditors of the late Dukes of Hamilton, was this Day read.

Recusants Estates.

Resolved, That the Court of Exchequer be required to forbear any Suspensions, or Discharges of Recusants Estates, until the Bill concerning Recusants be here taken into Consideration, and passed.

Raising Money.

Ordered, That this House be resolved into a Committee of the whole House, touching Money, To-morrow Morning, the first Business; and nothing to intervene.
