Prayers.

Recognition of Government.

RESOLVED, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That all Persons returned, or who shall be returned, to serve in this Parliament, shall, before they be admitted to sit in this House, subscribe this Recognition of the Government.

Memorandum, The Recognition was contained in a Parchment, upon which the Vote was written by the Clerk; and was in these Words following:

"I do hereby freely promise and engage to be true and faithful to the Lord Protector, and the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland; and shall not (according to the Tenor of the Indenture whereby I am returned to serve in this present Parliament) propose, or give my Consent, to alter the Government, as it is settled in One Person and a Parliament."

Resolved, That these Subscriptions, by any Members who shall hereafter come to sit in the House, shall be made in the Presence of any Two Members who have subscribed this Recognition.

Mr. Recorder reports from the Committee, A Declaration for a Day of solemn Fasting and Humiliation: Which was once read; and then, afterwards, read in Parts: And, after several Amendments and Additions at the Table, the same, so amended, was agreed.

This Committee are to attend his Highness the Lord Protector with this Declaration; and to desire his Highness's Concurrence.

Resolved, That the Debate upon the Government be adjourned till To-morrow Morning, the first Business.

The Committee before named, did this Afternoon attend his Highness at Whitehall, with the Declaration agreed this Day; and to desire his Highness's Concurrence.
