Tuesday, the 25th of October, 1653.

Union with Scotland.

THE House was this Day in a Grand Committee, upon Debate of the Bill for Uniting and Incorporating Scotland into one Free State and Commonwealth with England.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Broughton was called to the Chair.

Mr. Rous was again called to the Chair for a Month.

Mr. Broughton reports from the Grand Committee, That it is the Desire of the Grand Committee, that the House would give Leave, that the Grand Committee do sit on Friday next, on this Bill.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee, on Friday next, upon the Bill for the Uniting of Scotland and England: And that Mr. Speaker do then forbear to take the Chair.

Leave of Absence.

Resolved, That Mr. Cator have Leave to go into the Country.

Petition from London.

The House being informed, that there were divers Citizens of London at the Door; they were called in: And, being come to the Bar, Alderman Underwood presented a Petition, in the Name of the Aldermen and Commons of the City of London in Common-Council assembled.

Resolved, That this Petition be committed viz. to-

The Question being put, That it be referred to the Council of State;

It passed in the Negative.-

Ashley Cooper, Colonel West, Colonel Rows, Mr. Barton, Mr. Cust, Mr. Anlaby, Colonel Bennett, Colonel Jones, Colonel Mountague, Colonel Blount, Colonel Danvers, Mr. Highland, Mr. Strickland, Alderman Warner, Captain Stone, Mr. Spence, Colonel Hewson, Colonel Clerk, Colonel James, Mr. Squib, Mr. Carew, Mr. Dickenson, Mr. Hollestree, or any Five of them: And Mr. Spence and Captain Cust to have care of it; with Power to send for Persons, Papers, Records, Witnesses; and to examine on Oath: And the Committee are to sit this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber; and so Day by Day; and to report with Speed.

The Petitioners were again called in: And Mr. Speaker, by the Command of the House gave them Answer: That the House hath read their Petition; and hath referred the same to be examined by a special Committee of this House: Who are to sit this Afternoon; and to make a speedy Report thereof.
