Saturday, the 27th of August, 1653.

Committee of Trade.

MR. Warner reports from the Committee for Trade, That an Act may be brought in, to establish a Committee or Council for Trade, with such Instructions to be therein inserted, as the House shall think fit, for the Carrying-on of the Business of Trade: And that the Parliament will also be pleased to give their Directions in Matters of Corporations.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That there be Commissioners for Trade: And that it be referred to the Committee for Trade, to bring in the Names of fit Persons to be Commissioners for the Purpose aforesaid.

Resolved, That it be referred to the same Committee, to consider of the Powers contained in the last Act for the Advancing and Regulating of Trade, and of such other Powers as they shall find necessary to be given to these Commissioners; and to prepare and bring in an Act, accordingly.

Irish Adventurers.

Resolved, That the Committee do report the Bill for Ireland, on Tuesday Morning next.

Proceedings against Lilborne.

Sir Anthony Ashley Cooper reports from the Council of State, That the Council having, in pursuance of the Order of Parliament of the 22th of August 1653, examined the Business of the late Trial of Lieutenant-Colonel John Lilborne, and particularly examined the Judges and Jury; and the Lord Mayor and Recorder of the City of London, and Mr. Attorney-General, having, by Order of the Council, set down and returned the Proceedings of the Tryal in Writing; and the Clerks, attending there also, returned several scandalous and seditious Speeches spoken by the said John Lilborne at his Tryal, which they took in Short-hand; they have returned the same, with the Examinations of the Jury taken before the Council.

A Copy of the Certificate, by the Lord Mayor, Recorder, and Mr. Attorney-General, were this Day read; together with the Examinations of the Jury, and an Extract of the Words spoken by the said John Lilborne at the Tryal.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take some Course for the further Securing LieutenantColonel John Lilborne, for the Peace of this Nation.

Ordered, That it be likewise referred to the Council of State, to consider of the Examinations and Papers formerly and now reported by them to the Parliament; and such Advices as they have concerning Lieutenant-Colonel John Lilborne; and to make an Abstract out of the same; and report the same to the House, with their Opinion, what is fit to be done therein, with Speed.

Resolved, That the further Debate of this Business be adjourned till Monday Morning next.
