Tuesday, the 18th of January, 1652.

Prayers.

Markets.

MR. Love reports from the Committee for regulating Markets; viz.

UPON hearing Parties and Counsel, and what hath been said and offered on both Sides, between the Inhabitants of Smythick in the County of Cornwall, and the Inhabitants of Penryn in the said County, touching the keeping a weekly Market in the said Town of Smythick; this Committee having taken into their serious Consideration, do find, that the said Town of Smithyck is situate upon the Mouth of the Haven of Falmouth, and very near the great Castle of Pendennis; and that a Market, in all Probability, will very much conduce to the Benefit and Advantage of the Commonwealth, by the accommodating the Navy, Merchants, Seamen, and others, with all manner of Provisions; the said Haven of Falmouth being a Place of great Consequence, and of much Advantage to all Sorts of Ships: It is therefore ordered, notwithstanding what hath been said to the contrary, That there shall be a Market, for Time to come, kept and held in the said Town of Smythick, on every Thursday in every Week: And Mr. Blagrave is desired to prepare an Act to that Purpose; and report the same to the Parliament.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That there be a weekly Market kept at the Town of Smythick in the County of Cornwall.

Ordered, by the Parliament, That Mr. Attorney General be authorized and required to draw up a Patent for the keeping of a weekly Market in the Town of Smythick in the County of Cornwall, on Thursday in every Week: And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England be, and are hereby impowered and authorized to pass the said Patent under the Great Seal of England.

Prices of Coals.

The Lord Chief Baron Wilde made a Relation to the Parliament of the Proceedings of the Lord Mayor of London, and the Judges, Justices, and Grand Jury, at the Sessions, touching the Prices of Sea-Coals, in pursuance of the Order of Parliament of the 11th of this Instant January.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider how, and in what manner, Men may be pressed out of the Colliers Ships, that they may not be hindered in their Voyages; and to take effectual Course therein.

Publick Faith.

Colonel Marten reports, A Bill touching satisfying of the Publick Faith, of such Persons as are not able to double their Publick Faith-Money: Which was this Day read the First time.

Selling Cathedrals.

Ordered, That Colonel Marten do, on this Day Sevennight, make the Report in his Hands concerning Cathedrals, for Satisfaction of Publick Faith.

Publick Faith.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee that brought in the Bill for Satisfaction of the Publick Faith, to consider how the Monies due upon the Publick may be ascertained; and in what way it is fit to be put, for the better ascertaining thereof; and what Time is sit to be fixed, beyond which no Publick Faith shall be claimed that is not so ascertained; and to prepare and bring in an Act, with Names of fit Persons to be Commissioners for ascertaining the same, accordingly, out of the Commissioners for the monthly Assessments, not appointing above Five Persons for one County: And that the said Committee do prepare Instructions to be given to the said Commissioners, and present them to the Parliament for their Approbation: And the said Committee is to meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, and so de die in diem; and to make Report thereof on this Day Sevennight.
