Prayers.

Sitting of this Parliament.

THE House, according to former Order, was this Day resolved into a Grand Committee, upon the Bill for setting a certain Time for Sitting of this Parliament, and for Calling of a new Parliament.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Mr. Ellis took the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Ellis reports, from the Grand Committee, upon the Bill for setting a certain Time for Sitting of this Parliament, and for Calling of a new Parliament, that the said Committee desire the Leave of the Parliament to sit on Thursday next.

Resolved, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee on Thursday next, upon the Bill for setting a certain Time for Sitting of this Parliament, and for Calling of a new Parliament: And that Mr. Serjeant Earle be in the Chair for that Business.

Highways.

Ordered, That the Act for the Highways be reported this Day Fortnight.

Nominating Sheriffs.

The House, according to former Order, took into Consideration the Nomination of Sheriffs for the several Counties.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That Thomas Bromsall, Esq; be nominated and appointed Sheriff for the County of Bedford, for the Year ensuing : And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do issue forth a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Resolved, That Robert Dormer, of Dourton, be nominated and appointed Sheriff of the County of Bucks, for the Year ensuing: And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England, do issue forth a Commission to him to the Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

The like Order for Sir Henry Henn, of Furilleianne, Knt. and Bart. to be Sheriff of the County of Berks.

The like Order for Sir Hennage Proby, Knt. to be Sheriff of the Counties of Cambridge and Huntington.

Resolved, That Richard Ferrand of Mitcham, Esq; be nominated and appointed Sheriff of the County of Surrey for the Year ensuing.

The like Order for Wm. Combe, Esq; to be Sheriff of the County of Worcester.

The like Order for John Dantesey, Esq; to be Sheriff of the County of Radnor.

Resolved, That the Council of State do give Order for Payment of such Clerks, as Mr. Speaker shall employ to make Extracts out of the Records and Books returned from Scotland, concerning the Transactions between the Two Nations, as the Council shall think fit.

Army Affairs.

Major Salwey reports, from the Council of State, that there may be Allowance upon the Establishment for a Major General of Foot, at Twenty Shillings per Diem.

That there may be also Allowance upon the Establishment of Ten to be added to the Life-Guard, to make up the Forty, that are already established to the Number of Fifty, besides Officers.

That there may be also Allowance upon the Establishment of these additional General Officers, viz. One more Adjutant of Horse, One more Adjutant of Foot; One Physician, One Preacher, and One Chirurgeon.

Resolved, by the Parliament, That there be Allowance upon the Establishment of a Major General of Foot, at Twenty Shillings per Diem.

Resolved, That there be an Allowance upon the Establishment of Ten to be added to the Life-Guard, to make up the Forty already upon the Establishment, to the Number of Fifty, besides Officers.

Resolved, That there be also Allowance upon the Establishment for these additional General Officers, viz. One more Adjutant of Horse, One more Adjutant of Foot, One Physician, One Preacher, and One Chirurgeon.

Resolved, That the Committee of the Army be authorized and required to make Payment of these several Officers and Persons, added, by these Votes, to the Establishment, with the rest of the Army.

Subscribing Engagement.

Sir Henry Mildmay reports, from the Committee for Reformation of the Universities, that the present Chancellor of the University of Cambridge does not comply with the Act of Parliament in subscribing of the Engagement; whereby the University doth suffer: And to desire the Parliament's Pleasure therein.

Ordered, That the Information now given to the House, and the Debate thereupon, be referred to the Committee for regulating of the Universities; to examine the Matter of Fact; and why a new Chancellor of the University of Cambridge hath not been elected, if the present Chancellor be continued contrary to the Act: And that they proceed according to the Act.

Adjournment.

Resolved, That when the House do rise, the House be adjourned until Thursday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
