Prayers.

ORdered, That the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Herts, shall have the like Power as the Lords Lieutenants in other the Associated Counties have, for granting Commissions to Officers.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

The humble Petition of John Lowry Esquire, Mayor of the Borough of Cambridge, a Member of this House, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Examination of the Business, concerning the Mayor of Cambridge's refusing to take the Oath usually taken by former Mayors of Cambridge, referred by former Order to the Committee of Associations sitting at Cambridge, be suspended and taken off, as to the Person of John Lowry Esquire, a Member of this House, the present Mayor: And that the Examination of this Business, as to Mr. Lowry, be referred to the Committee of this House, appointed to take Consideration of the Petition presented from the Heads of the Colleges of the University of Cambridge.

Ordered, That the humble Petition of the Mayor, Bailiffs, Burgesses, and other Inhabitants of the Town of Cambridge, this Day presented to the House by Mr. Lowry, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of this House, appointed to take Consideration of the Petition presented from the Heads of the Colleges of the University of Cambridge.

A Letter from Yorke, of Augusti 11 1645, from the Commissioners of both Houses sent into Scotland; and a Paper presented from the Committee of War, concerning the Forces designed for Blocking up of Newarke; and a List of the Forces arising out of the several Counties of the Northern Association; and concerning the disposing and preserving a Thousand mounted Horse, with their Officers; that will remain upon the Reducement of the Forces of that County; were this Day read.

Ordered, That a Letter be written to the Committee of War at Yorke, to desire them to preserve and keep together from scattering, for Three Months, the supernumerary Forces of Horse and Foot, with their Officers, that will fall off upon the Reducement of the Forces of Yorkeshire.

Sir Thomas Widdrington and Mr. Millington are appointed to prepare this Letter; and to take notice of the Ten thousand Pounds charged upon the Excise, for maintaining the supernumerary Forces.

Resolved, &c. That Ten thousand Pounds shall be advanced and charged upon the Excise, and paid in its Course, with Interest after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. for a Year; for the Maintaining of those supernumerary Forces of Horse and Foot in Yorkeshire, that shall join with the other Forces in the Design of blocking up and reducing Newarke; or in fighting and opposing the Enemy in the Field.

Resolved, &c. That Two thousand Pounds be advanced and charged upon the Excise, and paid in its Course, with Interest after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. for a Year; and be employed for the Service and Advantage of the Forces of Lancashire.

According to former Order, the House took into Consideration the Petition of the Inhabitants of the Borough of Southwarke, delivered in by Colonel Venn; wherein they desire, that Writs may issue, for electing Two Burgesses to serve for that Borough, in the Place of Mr. Whyte, formerly elected to serve as one of the Burgesses for that Place, and since deceased; and in the Place of Mr. Edward Bagshaw, formerly elected to serve as a Burgess for that Place, and since expelled for deserting the Service of the House, and the Trust reposed in him, and adhering to the Enemy.

The Question being put, Whether the Consideration of this Petition should be deferred for a Month longer;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went sorth.

So that the Question passed with the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That this Petition be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Speaker shall presently leave the Chair, and the Grand Committee take this Petition into Consideration.
