Prayers.

THE Grand Committee of the whole House, according to former Order, met, concerning Matters of Religion.

Mr. Whittacre in the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

An Ordinance for enabling the Committee of the Militia to send forth a Regiment of Dragoons, upon this present Expedition, into the West, for the Relief of the Brigade at Taunton, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Ordered, That Mr. Purefoy shall have Leave to go into the County.

Upon a Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms;

It is Resolved, &c. That Sir John Evelyn, Sir Arthur Hasilrig, Mr. Knightley, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Crew, Colonel Ven, Mr. Vassall, Sir Thomas Soame, Mr. Ashe, Mr. Spurstoe, Alderman Pennyngton, Mr. Beddingfeild, Sir Henry Mildmay, and Sir Wm. Massam, be a Committee appointed to go to the Lord Mayor, Court of Alderman, and Common-Council of the City of London; and earnestly recommend it unto them, from this House, to consider of some speedy Way of advancing a Month's Pay to the Scotts Army, upon the Credit and Security of the Ordinance for the monthly Entertainment of that Army; whereof Ten thousand Pounds is due by the City of London.

Sir John Evelyn carried to the Lords the Ordinance for the Northern Association; and the Ordinance for enabling the Committee of the Militia of London to send forth a Regiment of Dragoons, upon the present Expedition, into the West.

Sir Gilbert Gerard reports from the Committee of both Kingdoms, That that Committee had given Liberty to the Members of the Sub-Committee (who had Power to treat, for delivering up any considerable Garison of the Enemy's, or bringing over any considerable Force, and for finding out such as keep Intelligence with the Enemy), that any of the said Sub-Committee (it being now dissolved), may give Account of their Proceedings therein to the Houses, or any Committee appointed by the Houses: And that the Houses be desired to use Expedition in dispatching this Business, for avoiding the Aspersions that may be cast upon the Members of that Sub-Committee.

He likewise delivered in a Paper, given in by the Lord Wareston to the Committee of both Kingdoms, Junii 12 1645; together with my Lord Chancellor's Declaration: Which was read.

Resolved, &c. That the Committee of Lords and Commons, appointed for Examination of the Lord Digbie's Letter, shall have Power to examine such Persons as are Members of either House, as that Committee shall think fit to examine, concerning the Matters referred to that Committee: And the said Committee are hereby injoined to take special Care for the speedy Examination of the same.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

This House doth give Leave, That Mr. Charles Pym, a Member of this House, shall be examined by the Committee of this House, concerning the Business of Mr. Pelham.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to acquaint you, That they have received a Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms, by Order from that Committee; and a Paper delivered in there from the Lord Wareston, and Lord Chancellor of Scotland; which they thought fit to impart to you: That they have agreed to Two Exchanges for Two Prisoners taken at Leicester; and desire your Concurrence therein.

They commanded us likewise to put you in mind of an Ordinance touching the Church of Plymouth: Which they desire may be taken into Consideration.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Lords in the Exchange of Mr. John Angell Minister, a Confrater of Wigson's Hospital in Leicester, for Davies Ambrose Doctor in Divinity.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Lords, in the Exchange of Mr. Job Grey, Prisoner at Leicester, for Sir Wm. Riddall Knight.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That the House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration: And, as to the Exchanges abovesaid, they do agree: And, as to the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Sir John Evelyn brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Ordinance for enabling the Committee of the Militia of London to send a Regiment of Dragoons into the West.

Several Letters, to be signed by the Speakers of both Houses, and sent to the Provincial-States, were this Day presented; and one of them read, being all alike; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and signed by Mr. Speaker.
