July 1692

July. 1. Friday, Griffith went early to Chester for wine & bottles; retorned at 12; went for coales at 8.

2. Satorday, Huson came about 8 with money from Wrexam Receipte, went before 10 to Chester; at 11 one Johnson (a yong man of Manley) came to complaine that his mother kept his estate, & ? withens threatned him; he drank but stayd not; past 1, I went to Chester; lighted at Jackson's; met Palin, his wife, (Huson interl.), & severall tenants there; Donald trimmed me; Parry went with me to Angell's; retorned presently; there was Baroby, G.Mainwaring, Spark, Hickman, (Minshall interl.), Farington, Taylor, (Streete, Johnson & Kinaston came late) I left them neare 8; called at Denson's, coming & going; came home neare 10; found Minshall & his wife there; Mainwaring came soone after, then Roger, &c.

3.Sonday, I was not at church; Mainwaring, Roger & Minshall went in the afternoone; retorned past 8; Huson came with them.

4.Monday, Mainwaring, Roger & Minshall went to Chester before 10; Huson, Davyes & Simson soone after soe to Dissart & the Receipte at Conway; past 11, I went to Chester; lighted at Jackson's; went directly (with Minshall) to the Quarter Sessions in the Hall; then to dinner with Lord Warington at Mr Booth's (with Grosvenor, Mainwaring, Recorder, Deane, Aldermen, &c.) at 5 I went with Streete to Angell's; then to Jackson's; there was Streete, Fernaugh, Farington, Sharpe, Bingley (& 3 other Bakers) Minshall, &c.. I went thence past 7; called on Denson; then to the Bars; sister Lloyd & Sidney were there & went home with me neare 10.

5.Tuesday, past 10 the keeper came from Shotwick; Kelsall came about 3 (I was then at dinner) Lord Warington, G.Mainwaring, Hardware, Minshall, Roger, Mainwaring came from Chester past 2; dined; Warington, G.Mainwaring & Hardwar went past 8.

6.Wednesday, Houseman went to Shotwick; Griffiths & carts (in the night) for coales; Mainwaring, Roger & Minshall went past 10 to a shooting at Sandyway Head; retorned past 9 with Hickman, Brooks & Jackson; I was in my chamber before they came, soe I saw them not over night.

7.Thursday, a man came from Shropshire about money Roger owes him; I sent Griffith, Moses, &c. to drive Moldsworth Commonns; Brook, Hickman, Jackson, Minshall, his wife, Olton,&c. dined at 11; we parted past 12 (Minshall & wife stayd till next day); we came to Chester past 2; stayd an houer at Angell's; called on cosen Powell at Wrexam; came to Ruabon before 7; Mainwaring came with us.

8.Friday, Sir John Wynne, Mr Eaton & Mr Lloyd dined with us; we went in the evening to Sir John Wynne's, supt, retorned about 10; (brother Robinson went with us) there was Hickman, Hodges & Cooper at his house; I discoursed them, they went presently away; Roger dined with us; went back to Chester about 4.

9.Satorday, about 12 we left Ruabon; called on cosen Powells doore, her sister was with her, stayd not; brother Robinson went with us as far as Sir G.Jeffrey's; Thomas Hughes to Chester; we lighted & dined at Angell's; Morgan came to us; I went to Jackson's; there was Streete, Sharpe, 2 Mainwarings, Hocknell (his cosen & the keeper about killing my deere); Morgan & I & Streete went to Charles Griffith's; there was Croughton & Roger Madoxs; also Robinson, Hall, Kirk & another tanner; they stayd not; I parted by 8; called my daughters at the Bars; came home before 10; Mainwaring & Morgan came to Peele before 11.

10.Sonday, Mainwaring & daughters, &c. went to church in the afternoone; Huson came past one; Mrs Jackson came about 5; her husband past 9.

11. Monday, Roger came about 11; he, Mainwaring, Jackson,&c. went to meete Hickman, G.Mainwaring, Farington,&c. at Kent's, to dinner & to shoote at the target; Bolton came about 2 to discourse of the mill, &c. Huson went at 3 & Houseman to Tarperley; about 5 came 2 Mainwarings, Roger, Brooks, Hickman, Collonell ………, Hignet, Warburton, &c. stayd till 7; then came Farington & Cookson; went with Morgan about 8; Roger went to Chester; Jackson came past 9; there were other men & women to see the house.

12. Tuesday, Mainwaring went about 8 to Namptwich; Jackson & his wife went home at 3; Houseman went to Chester about 11; came back at 9.

13.Wednesday, (the fast day) I was not at church; past 1, Kelsall & his wife came to treate about Shotwick; we dined at 3; they went before 5; Harry Siddall came about trespasse he had done me; stayd not; Hardwar's man came with a letter.

14.Thursday, Griffith & carts went early for coales; one Johnson from Chester came about cooper wood, went before 12; a man & his wife from Tatenhall about a woeman in Ireland that has a life in a lease; one Broster & others from Chester to speake with Charlotte about a mayde for her; about 12 came Angell & sister; after dinner came Vernon & his wife; stayd about 2 houers; Mainwaring retorned at 9; Huson past 10.

15.Friday, Huson went about 11 to Tatenhall & Bechin; about 5 came Griffith (a cooke of Westminster) about money Roger owes him; he supt with us, stayd all night.

16.Satorday, Griffith the cook went about 8 to Chester; Mainwaring & I went neare 12; we lighted & dined at the Royall Oak; (G.Mainwaring, Hickman, Roger, Griffith with us) Streete came after dinner; there was Palin, Bolton & others with me; I went past 4 to Jackson's; there was 2 Mainwarings, Streete, Hickman, Hurleston, Spencer, Hesketh, &c. I stayd not; went back to the Royall Oak, G.Mainwaring with me; Vicars came to us; then Mainwaring, Streete, Cumberbach, Croughton, &c. Conen & 4 of his partners (from London) came to another roome; I was awhile with them; left them, also the other company about 8; went home with Mainwaring; came to Peele past 9; Griffith the cook came with us; Walforne retorned from Oxford.

17.Sonday, Mainwaring went to church in the morning; Griffith the cook went about 2.

18.Monday, Huson came before 11; before 1 I went to Chester, alighted & dined at Jackson's with Warington, 2 Mainwarings, Streete, Roger & Hickman; (Bingley & another Baker came to me about theire businesse interl.) after dinner came Brooks, Angell, Booth, Hardware, &c. they went past 5; onely 2 Mainwarings, Streete, Angell & I stayd till neare 8; went then home.

19.Tuesday, I sent Moses to Shrewsbury & Frodesley; Mainwaring went about 7 towards Knotsford; after dinner came Salisbury (with a periwig) & his daughter, went before 5; I began to mowe this day; Huson went before 10.

20.Wednesday, no company, or businesse but with the mowers.

21.Thursday, Huson came before 7; about 5, he & Cartright went to Mold faire; Houseman went to speake with Blithe about viewing Shotwick tithes, &c.

22.Friday, Salisbury brought me a periwig, dined with us, went past 2; Angell dined with us, stayd till 5; Moses brought venison from Frodesley.

23.Satorday, Houseman went to Chester past 12; came back about 9; Mainwaring retorned about the same time; Cartright about one.

24.Sonday, Mainwaring, his wife, Charlotte, &c. went to church; Mainwaring & Walforne went to Tarperly & Utkington after dinner; retorned at 8; Morgan & Huson at 9.

25.Monday, Hardwar came past 9; severall people to speake with Mainwaring; Donald trimmed me; Angell & 2 Bunberyes dined with us; also Pargiter, Conen, Nest, Frost, Huet, Morgan, &c. they went about 6; I went past 7 to Bromley's, there was Mainwaring, Morgan, Parson Davyes, his sonne, cosen Davyes, Smith, &c. I stayd an houer, retorned with Mainwaring & Morgan about 9.

26.Tuesday, Huson & Houseman went past 6 towards Shotwick; Gerard came to see us in the afternoone, but I saw him not; in the evening Mainwaring, his wife, sisters',&c. went to Bromley's; retorned past 7.

27.Wednesday, Mainwaring went to Chester past 9; stayd all night.

28.Thursday, Kalsell came about 1, stayd 1/2 houer; then came Purcell, stayd all night; Mainwaring came from Chester past 6; Houseman from Shotwick past 9.

29.Friday, Purcell went back to Frodesly past 10; past 4 came Angell, stayd all night; about 6 came a man from cosen Whitley to know how we did, stayd ½ houer; about 9 Roger came; went agen about 10; lay at Tarperly all night.

30.Satorday, Huson came before 10; went to Chester past 11; in the evening Roger retorned, past 9; Charlotte & sisters met him at Bromley's.

31.Sonday, I was not at church; Mainwaring, daughters & sisters went; Walforne preached; Roger went after dinner (with the rest) Huson came past 5; went back before 9.
