Edward Spring of Carbrooke, co. Norfolk, gent v Edward Hye of Swaffham, co. Norfolk, yeoman

December 1637

Abstract

Spring complained that Hye had given him the lie and called him a rascal, in a 'very reproachfull and opprobrious manner' in the presence of several gentlemen. Process was granted and bond entered on 4 December 1637; but no further proceedings survive.

3/31, Petition to Arundel

'The petitioner, being a gentleman of armes and antient descent, was before divers gentleman much abused by many evil and base words given him by one Edward Hye of Swaffham in the countie of Norfolke, yeoman. Hye amongst other base speeches in a very reproachfull and opprobrious manner giving the petitioner the lye and saying the petitioner was a rascall divers tymes without any provocation.'

Petitioned that Hye be brought to answer.
