Officers of Arms v John James of Northcourt, co. Kent, esq

Abstract
This was one of a number of office cases from late 1636 and early 1637 in which gentry were cited to appear for non-payment of fees to the heralds after their fathers' funerals, in this case the funeral of Henry James of Northcourt, Kent, esq.

Damaged proceedings before Lord Maltravers survive for c. 1636-8.
Notes
John James was described as the son of Henry James of Northcourt, co. Kent, esq. No John or Henry James of Northcourt are mentioned in the Visitations, but a Henry James of Canterbury is mentioned in the 1663-8 Visitation, along with a Henry and John James, both sons of William James of Ightham, co. Kent. Henry son of John James of Woodnesborough, aged 14 was mentioned in the Visitation of 1619-21.
