William Leeson of Packington, co. Leicester, gent v Nathaniel Potter of Loughborough, co. Leicester, vintner

November - December 1639

Abstract

Leeson complained that Potter had said 'that he was noe gent, but a base rascally fellow, a scum of the world and not worth a grote'. Bonds were entered in November-December 1639 and commissioners Edward Blunt, John Dixon, John Davenport, and George Rayson, gents, were appointed to examine witnesses; but no further proceedings survive.

'Nathaniell Potter of Loughborow, vintner, in publique and disgracefull manner did revile and vilify the petitioner, and said that he was noe gent, but a base rascally fellow, a scum of the world and not worth a grote (as by affidavits will appear), whereby the petitioner greatlie suffers in his reputacon.'

Petitioned that Potter be brought to answer.

Maltravers granted process on 21 November 1639.
