Abstract
The cause of Fortescue's complaint against Reynell remains unknown, but Reynell had married into the Fortescue family. By 21 February 1639 the cause had been settled between the two parties.
Summary of proceedings
Dr Parry acted as counsel. On 21 February 1639 Reynell to appear in response to a summons whereupon Dr Exton claimed that the cause had been settled between the two parties and proceedings were relaxed.
Notes
John Fortescue was the son and heir of Edmund Fortescue of Fallapit, and Mary, the eldest daughter of Henry Champernon of Modbury, and sister to Sir Richard Champernon. He married Sarah, daughter of Edmund Prideaux of Netherton. John Fortescue had a first cousin also named John Fortesuce, born in c.1597. Edmund Reynell was the son of George Reynell of Malston and Joanna, daughter of Ludovick Fortescue of Fallapit. The litigants were therefore related by marriage.
