185 DUNBAR V EMERSON

Henry Constable, 1st Viscount Dunbar, of Burton Constable, co. York v Richard Emerson

June - November 1636

Abstract

Proceedings survive from June and November 1636, but they do not reveal either the cause or result of Viscount Dunbar's complaint against Emerson.

Summary of proceedings

Dr Eden was counsel. This cause came before Sir Henry Marten on 3 June 1636, and there were further proceedings on 8 November 1636.

Notes

Henry Constable was created Viscount Dunbar, a Scottish title, in 1620. He came from one of the wealthiest families of the East Riding and was a staunch recusant with strong court connections. He helped to raise money for the war against the Scots in 1639 and supported the king in 1642, later serving as a colonel in the earl of Newcastle's army. He was the son of Sir Henry Constable and Margaret, daughter of Sir William Dormer of Wing, Buckinghamshire.
