Thomas Bollard, esq v Edmund Ellis, esq

November 1638 - January 1639

Abstract

The only surviving document for this case is a personal answer by Edmund Ellis, esq, refuting the libel by Thomas Bollard, esq, which was presented to the court on 6 November 1638. Proceedings continued in January 1639, but nothing further survives.

Summary of proceedings

Dr Eden acted as counsel for Bollard and Dr Duck for Ellis. There were proceedings on 6 and 20 November 1638 before Lord Maltravers and the earls of Huntingdon and Bath. On 6 November Dr Eden gave the libel for Bollard and on 20 November Dr Duck was to respond for Ellis, with Charles Bowles, Edward Tirwhit and Christopher Berisford featuring as witnesses to the libel. Dr Eden was required to prove the libel on 28 January 1639.
