355. ROGER DE MORTUO MARI, EARL OF MARCH.
[The missing return to the writ de feodis &c. to the escheator in Salop and Stafford (Vol. X, No. 640, p. 540) has been recovered and added to the file.]
SALOP. Inq. taken at Shrewsbury, Wednesday after St. Dunstan, 34 Edward III.
The earl held the following fees and advowsons on the day of his death:—
Brompton. One knight’s fee, held by Brian de Harleye.
Pedwardyn and Meton. Two-thirds of a knight’s fee, held by Roger de Pedwardyn.
Kynlet and Foxcote. One knight’s fee, held by Elizabeth de Cornwaille.
Witton. One knight’s fee, held by Brian de Harleye.
Letton. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by Alice late the wife of John de Letton.
Walleford. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by Walter de Pedwardyn.
La Sete. One knight’s fee, held by Thomas de la Sete.
Nene Savage and Eudon. One knight’s fee, held by John de Seint George.
Rugge. One fee, held by William de Rugge.
Overton and Cornleye. One knight’s fee, held by John de Overton.
Schepleye. A third part of a knight’s fee, held by Thomas de Wavere.
Asshton, Asshford and Kynton. One fee and a third part of a fee, held by John de Buerleye.
Bokenhull and Adelaghton. One knight’s fee, held by the earl of Arundel and the abbot of Wyggemor.
Borewarton. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by Walter de Hopton.
Scheynton. One knight’s fee, held by William de Scheynton.
Soudbury and Neynton. Two knights’ fees, held by Ralph Darras.
Moeles. One knight’s fee, held by William la Zuche.
Mauleye. One knight’s fee, held by Walter de Cleobury.
Hope Bagard. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by William de Hulle.
Hyntes and Hulle Hopemonecotes. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by the earl of Arundel.
La Steple. A third part of a knight’s fee, held by John de Seint George.
Turpleton. A tenth part of a knight’s fee, held by John de Bullesdon; and a tenth part of a fee, held by Thomas de Turpleton.
Leyntwardyn. A tenth part of a knight’s fee, held by John de Merlawe.
Nene Solers. One knight’s fee, held by Ralph de Blez (?).
Dounton. One knight’s fee, held by Philip de Dounton.
La Lowe. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by Robert Pertrich.
Bebeneye. A third part of a knight’s fee, held by Roger de Foxcotes.
Chelmersch. One knight’s fee, held by Hugh de Mortuo Mari; and one knight’s fee, held by Henry de Mortuo Mari.
All the above fees were held of the earl by the above tenants as pertaining to the manors of Wiggemor and Cleobury.
Montgomery. The advowson of the church.
Middelton. The advowson of the church.
Solers Neen. The advowson of the church.
Lodelowe. Every alternate presentation to the church.
Lodelowe. The advowson of the free chapel of Maudeleyne in the castle.
Corfton. One knight’s fee, held by Alina Burnell.
Hopton. One fee, held by William de Hopton.
Henneleye. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by John Sprenchose.
Euldon. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by Roger de Bollesdon.
Overheyton. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by John Broun.
Netherheyton. A moiety of a knight’s fee, held by William Deveros.
The earl held on the day of his death the following fees pertaining to the castle and lordship of Montgomery:—
