BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Shefforde, Saturday after St. John before the Latin Gate, 33 Edward III.
Clyfton. A manor with 60a. land, 4a. meadow held for life with Isabel his wife of the barony of Caynho by service of suit of court.
Clophull and Caynho. 4a. meadow and 50a. wood held for life with Isabel his wife, Gerard his son and Gerard son of the last, of the king in chief (service not specified).
Colmorthe. A moiety of the manor held of John Pycot by homage.
Blounham. A sixth part of a knight’s fee held of the earl of Penbrok by homage.
He held no other lands in the county.
He died on Sunday before St. Edward the King, 33 Edward III. Gerard de Braybrok his son, of full age, is his heir.
BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Wendovere, Saturday after St. George, 33 Edward III.
Horsyngdon. The manor held for life with Isabel his wife of Sir William Latymer by service of a rose at midsummer.
Prince’s Rysburgh. A carucate of land held of the prince by fealty and suit of court and service of 1lb. pepper at Martinmas.
Rysburgh. 24a. land held of John Nernuyt by fealty and service of 23s. 4d.

Ramardewyk. The manor held jointly with Isabel his wife, who survives, by fine levied in the king’s court, of lord Latymer (de domino Latymer), service not known.
Piriton. 23a. land similarly held of John Doddyngseles by service of 5s. yearly.
He died on 17 March last. Heir as above, aged 22 years and more.

512. NICHOLAS GAMAGE.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Nicholas and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 8 February, 33 Edward III.
OXFORD. Inq. made at Boreford, 2 July, 33 Edward III.
Rollyndrith. A messuage and two virgates of land held of the king in chief by the serjeanty of serving in the king’s spence.
He held no other lands in the county.
He died on Saturday before the Purification, 24 Edward III. His daughters, Margery, aged 30 years and more, married to John Byllyng, Joan, sister to Margery, aged 24 years and more, married to Hugh Archur, and Elizabeth, sister of Margery and Joan, aged 22 years and more, married to John son of Hugh, are his heirs.
John Bisshop, bailiff of Chadlington, had possession of the aforesaid lands &c. for seven years after the death of Nicholas, when he was bailiff of the hundred; and John de Estbury, escheator now, has had possession in the king’s name for the last year and a half.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said William and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 20 September, 33 Edward III.
LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Lincoln, Saturday after Michaelmas, 33 Edward III.
Lincoln. Three cottages in the parish of St. Michael on the Hill held of William de Bella Fago by service of 3s. yearly.
He held no other lands in the county.
He died on 16 March, 23 Edward III. Gilbert Sedan of Thorp othe Hill, aged 36 years, is his heir.
No one had possession of these cottages from the time of his death until 12 December, 31 Edward III, but from that day till now one William Sherman has had them by the demise of Walter de Kelby, the escheator, for 10s. a year, and the said Walter has received the issues and profits for the king’s use.
Writ of certiorari super causa capcionis, 18 November, 33 Edward III.
Answer of the escheator that he took the above-mentioned cottages into the king’s hand because he found by an inquisition taken ex officio that the deceased died seised of them and had no heir of his blood and bequeathed them to no one in his will.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 16 February, 33 Edward III.
LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Grantham on Friday after Ash Wednesday, 33 Edward III.
Botheby by Billesfeld. The manor held jointly with Cecily his wife of the heirs of Sir Thomas Wake by knight’s service for one knight’s fee.
Est Depyng. A messuage, 30a. land, 40a. meadow, and 30s. rent held of lady Blanche Wake by knight’s service.
He died on the feast of St. James, 23 Edward III. John his son, aged 13 years, is his heir after the decease of the said Cecily; and she, while she was sole, and afterwards she and Thomas de Botheby, now her husband, have been in possession of the above lands &c. since the death of the said John.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said William and who has been in possession of his land since his death. 13 August, 33 Edward III.
HEREFORD AND THE MARCH ADJACENT. Inq. made at Eorselone, co. Hereford, Tuesday before St. Bartholomew, 33 Edward III.
Londischurche. A messuage and 30a. land held of the heir of Laurence de Hastynges, late earl of Pembroke, by knight’s service.
PEMBROKE. Angle (apud Angulum). Ten messuages, two mills, five carucates and three bovates of land held jointly with Eva his wife in fee tail of John de Schirbourne by knight’s service.
HEREFORD. Peosebrugge. A messuage, a carucate of land, 4a. meadow and 3s. rent similarly held of Grymbald Paunsefote.
Marcle. A messuage and a carucate of land, similarly held of Grymbald Paunsefot by service of rendering a rose at midsummer.
He died at Weston, co. Devon, on 10 February, 31 Edward III. Margaret his daughter, aged two years at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last, is his heir.
William Malyfaunt of co. Pembroke took into his hand unjustly the messuage &c. in Londeschirche on the day of the death of William de Carue, claiming them as his right, and is still in possession.
Eva, wife of the deceased, who was jointly enfeoffed with him, has been and still is in possession of the other premises.

Humeley. The manor held, as member of the castle of Duddeley, jointly as above, by gift of Edmund de Berford and Philip de Engelfeld, who previously held the said manor of the deceased by knight’s service.
Penne. The manor similarly held by gift of Nicholas, parson of the church of Kyngesswynford, who previously held it of the said John and Isabel by knight’s service.
Tibynton. A messuage, a carucate of land, 6a. meadow and 6a. pasture held jointly by the said John and Isabel of the lord of Tibynton by service of 12d. yearly, by gift of the aforesaid Stephen and John de Coleshull.

HERTFORD. Inq. taken at Sabrichesworth, 4 August, 33 Edward III.
Sabrichesworth. The manor (extent given), including a chief messuage, 527a. arable, a marsh for pasturing cows, a park of 60a. with great trees and deer, and a yearly leet on Friday after Michaelmas, held of the king in chief by knight’s service and charged with a yearly payment of 10l. to Robert Stangrave, knight, for life, granted to him by Geoffrey de Say, father of the deceased, which Robert still survives.
He died on 26 June last. William de Say his son, aged 19 years on the feast of St. Botolph last, is his heir.

SUSSEX. Inq. taken at Bokested, 18 July, 33 Edward III.
Buksted. The manor held jointly by the said Geoffrey, Maud his wife and William their son, who survives, by gift of Richard de Chuderlegh, parson of the church of Marunhulle, and John Cramphorn to them and the heirs of the said Geoffrey and Maud, of John de Waleys, knight, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee and by service of rendering yearly to the archbishop of Canterbury at his manor of Southemallyng 33s. 8 3/4d. He had no other lands or tenements belonging to the manor.

Edelmeton [Edelmpton]. The manor (extent given, arable being worth only 1/2d. per acre when unsown because the soil is sandy and very sterile), including 40a. wood, a windmill that cannot grind for want of stones, and a leet held yearly on Thursday in Whitsun week, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee and by service of rendering 13s. 4d. yearly to the sheriff of Middlesex.
He had no other lands &c., in the county.

Birlyng [Bierling]. The manor (extent given), including a park with deer, leets yearly after Easter and Michaelmas respectively, and a water-mill called ‘Smythorn’; held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee.
Codham. The manor (extent given), including land in Bederede, Northberden, Suthberden, Thornefeld and Mede, a park with deer for the keeping of which the parker gets 14d. a week, and leets after Easter and Michaelmas, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee.
Burgham [Borgham]. The manor (extent given), including 15a. salt meadow, leets after Easter and Michaelmas, and a water-mill, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, amount not known.
Westgrenewich. The manor (extent given), including 50a. wood, and 2 leets yearly soon after Hokeday and Michaelmas; held of the king in chief by knight’s service, amount not known.
He had no other lands or tenements in the county except knights’ fees which cannot yet be known.

The hamlet (extent given), including a carucate of land worth nothing, being sandy, untilled, in common and nearly covered with heath, a park, pasture called ‘le Hallemor’ and a fulling mill; held of the king by reason of the temporalities of the bishopric of Coventry and Lichfield being in the king’s hand through the death of Roger de Northburgh, late bishop, as of the manor of Longedon, of the bishop of Chester by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee and suit of court at Longedon every three weeks.

Claydon. Four virgates of land within the manor in the hands of free tenants, held of the king as of the honour of Peverel by knight’s service; and the remainder of the manor (extent given) held of the earl of Warwick by knight’s service. Two parts of the arable usually cropped are uncultivated this year as no one would hire them because the heir is of age.
Icford. A messuage &c. and 60s. rent of free tenants held of the prior of Wilmyngton by service of 1d. at Easter.
Shobinton. The manor held jointly with John his son, by gift of Richard de la Coppe, parson of the church of Oxebourgh, and Richard de Gardinis, parson of the church of Somerton, of Edward, prince of Wales, by knight’s service.

519. JOHN, SON OF JOHN DE TIBETOT, SON AND HEIR OF MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE TIBETOT, ONE OF THE SISTERS AND HEIRS OF GILES DE BADELESMERE.
Writ after the death of the said John, who died a minor in the king’s wardship, to enquire as to the lands which came into the king’s hands through the death of Elizabeth, late the wife of Giles de Badelesmere, and the minority of the deceased. Tested by Thomas, Keeper of England, Westminster, 8 October, 33 Edward III.
SUFFOLK. Inq. taken at Barwe, Thursday in Easter week, 34 Edward III.
Barwe. The manor (extent given), including pasture called ‘le Hay’ and a leet on the feast of St. Matthew, came into the king’s hand by the death of Elizabeth, late the wife of Giles de Badelesmere, by reason of the minority of the said John, who died a minor in the king’s wardship. The manor is held of the countess Marshal by knight’s service.
Date of death not known. Robert, son of the aforesaid John de Tibetot and Margaret, and brother of the deceased, aged 19 years and more, is his heir.
HERTFORD. Inq. taken at Ware, Monday after St. Gregory, 34 Edward III.
Welewes. A certain tenement called the manor of Mardele (extent given), held of Katherine Poleyn as of the manor of Ayote by service of 20s. yearly, except a parcel of land thereof which is held of Robert Broun by service of 5s. yearly, came into the king’s hand as above.

Kynggeston. The manor, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee and by service of rendering yearly to the ward of Dover castle 13s. 2d. and to the castle of Chilham 18d. and to the church of Kynggeston 2 1/2d., came into the king’s hand as above.
Sibbeton. The extent is not identical with that in the inquisition above. It mentions that part of the land was sown this year before the death of Elizabeth, [wife] of Hugh le Despencer, who held the manor for life.

Stayngreve and Nonyngton. The said William at one time held these manors, but long before his death he gave to Richard de Pateshill his brother, for life, a messuage, a carucate of land, 80a. meadow and 12a. pasture in Waterholme in the manor of Nonyngton, who still survives and holds them; to Hugh Ryffyn and William his son for their lives, six messuages, a mill, 16 bovates of land and 12a. wood in Ricolf in the same manor, who still survive; to John Walker for life a mill in Nonyngton, to Robert Forester and Alice his wife for their lives a messuage and six bovates of land in the same, and to Ralph Boteler for life 40s. rent issuing from the same manor: and afterwards gave the manors with the advowsons of the churches and chapels and the reversions after the deaths of the above-named tenants for life to Nicholas de Thonford and John de Goldyndon, who received seisin on Thursday before the Epiphany, 31 Edward III, and gave the whole with certain tenements thereto belonging in Westnonyngton and Muscotes, Estnesse and Westnesse to the said William de Pateshull for life, with remainder to Henry Grene, knight, by fine levied in the king’s court in 32 Edward III. The life tenants are all alive. The manors are held of the abbot of St. Mary’s, York, Thomas de Roos of Hamelak, Andrew Lutterel, William de Regn … knight, and John Peuger by divers services and no part of them is held of the king.

Reotherestrop. The town (extent given), including 16s. yearly rent paid by 14 cottars for a common oven, a custom called ‘beaupleyt,’ a plot (placea) of meadow called ‘le holm’ and a custom called ‘yeld’; held of the king in chief by knight’s service as of the fee of Choukes, which is in the king’s hand.

Pateshull, Avescote, Derlescote, Ednescote, Descote, Farnyngho, Pottecote, Lychebarewe, Madeford, Tiffeld, Gayton and Preston. Lands in the hands of tenants rendering 16l. 3s. 4d. yearly, those in Pateshull held of the lady of Wodhull by knight’s service, those in Avescote of the abbot of Circestre by service of 13s. 4d. yearly, and of Richard de Mundeville by service of 12d. yearly, and moreover 22d. is payable yearly for ward of Rokyngham castle. Rothewell. A third part of the manor held in right of Beatrice his wife of the heir of John de Bello Monte, a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee.
Castre. A third part of 3s. 4d. yearly rent held in right of the same Beatrice, as parcel of a third part of the manor of Rothewell, of the heir of the earl of Kent by service of 6 3/4d. yearly.
He died on Thursday after St. Dunstan, 33 Edward III. Thomas de Grandissone, knight, son of the said Otto and Beatrice, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.

Faukham. A moiety of the manor held jointly by the said Otto and Beatrice his wife, who survives, of the bishop of Rochester by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, by gift of John de Aldham.
Schepeye. 103s. 4d. yearly rent held jointly as above, of the inheritance of the said Beatrice, of the king in chief by service of rendering a sore sparrowhawk yearly in conjunction with William de Hoo, knight, who holds for his part of the service a carucate of land in Kynggeston, co. Southampton.
Chellesfeld. Writ to William de Hatton, escheator in Sussex, to enquire concerning the lands held for life by John de Douvedale, deceased, his heir, and as to who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 26 June, 33 Edward III.
SUSSEX. Inq. taken at Chydynlegh, 10 July, 33 Edward III.
Laghton. The manor (extent given), including a park with deer and woods at Broule, Walderne and Hauekhurst, and agistment of foreign cattle in the woods at Haukhurst, Dikire and Walderne, and 60s. due from the customers of Laghton yearly for tallage, with the hundred of Schepelake held twice yearly; held for life of the king in chief as parcel of the honour of Laigle, service not known, and charged with finding pasture in Dikere and Brulle for 60 beasts, pannage for a hundred pigs and timber for the church and other buildings of the priory of Michilham and firewood and palings, according to the charter of Sir Gilbert de Aquila, founder of the said priory, and the confirmations of King Henry III and Edward III. John de Douvedale had the said manor and hundred by gift of King Edward I, and after the death of the said John King Edward II seized them into his hand and continued his seisin until the majority of Giles de Badillesmere, son and heir of Bartholomew de Badillesmere, who was in the king’s wardship, and Giles, when he came of age, had the said manor with the other lands late of his father: after his death the present king dowered Elizabeth, his late wife, of the said manor and hundred and after her death seized them into his hand and still retains them. Edward II in his 12th year granted the reversion of the manor and hundred to Bartholomew de Badillesmere by charter, but it is not known whether John de Douvedale attorned to him thereof or not.
