LANCASTER. Inq. taken at Lancaster on Monday before the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 15 Edward III.
Skotford. A messuage, lands and rent (extent given), held of Henry, earl of Lancaster, by knight’s service, including a rent of 4d., which is held of the said earl by knight’s service and rendering the said 4d. yearly for the ward of the castle of Lancaster.
Stodaugh in Assheton. A fourth part of a water-mill and a fourth part of a fishery in the water of Lone; both held of the said earl by the said service of 4d. for the ward of the said castle.
Garstang. A plot of waste ground, called Solam, held of the said earl by knight’s service, viz.—by homage and fealty, without doing any service for the same.
Ellale. A rent of 10d. held of the said earl by knight’s service and rendering the said 10d. to him yearly for the ward of the said castle.
Robert de Twenge, his brother, aged 46 years, is his next heir.
Writ of certiorari de feodis &c. 14 February, 15 Edward III.
LANCASTER. Inq. taken at Lancaster on Monday before the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 15 Edward III.
Warton-in-Kendale. The advowson of the church held of the king in chief. There is there an acre of land, which is the glebe of the said church, and is parcel of the manor of Helsyngton, co. Westmoreland, and worth 4d. yearly. The said church is filled by Robert de Twenge by the presentation of the said William.
Ellale, Garstang, Skotford and Assheton. A quarter of a knight’s fee held of Henry, earl of Lancaster, rendering to him for the parcel of Skotford, Assheton and Garstang, 4d. yearly for the ward of the castle of Lancaster, and for the parcel of Ellale 10d. yearly for the said ward. The said William took no profit of the said quarter of a fee beyond the said rent to the said earl.
He held no part of a fee of the king in chief.

Lalleford. The manor, and a toft, 40a. land, 10a. meadow, 30a. pasture, and 40a. marsh, in Lalleford, and the advowson of the church, held for life, of the grant of Roger Child, parson of the church of Stratford, and Robert de Boxstede, parson of the church of Mistelegh, who, by fine levied in the king’s court, granted the same to the said Benedict to hold for life, with remainder to Thomas de Cokefeld his son, who still survives, and to the heirs of the said Thomas’s body, to hold of the chief lords of that fee by the services pertaining to the same; whereof the said manor and advowson are held of Gilbert de Lacy, as of his castle of Frome, by homage and by service of 9 marks yearly; and the said toft, land &c. are held of Robert de Burgherch by knight’s service.

A messuage, lands, wood and rent (extent given), held of the earl of Gloucester and of Elizabeth late the wife of John de Burgo, as of the manor of Staundon, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, and suit of court at the said manor of Staundon every three weeks, and by a rent of 1d. yearly, and 10d. sheriff’s aid yearly; and the said tenements are charged with a yearly rent of 6l. 13s. 4d. to Nicholas le Blake of Ware, for his life.

BUCKINGHAM. Inq. taken at Westbury on Thursday before St. George the Martyr, 16 Edward III.
Shenlee. He held no lands &c. in fee in the bailiwick on the day he died, because he alienated a messuage, 100a. arable, 12a. wood, a wind-mill and 50s. rent, which he once held of the king in chief by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee, to Richard de Clare, his heirs and assigns, by the king’s licence and by fine levied in the said king’s court; which Richard, long after he had continued seisin of the said tenements, granted the same to the said Thomas and to Agnes his wife, who still survives, and to the heirs of their bodies, by the like licence and fine.

HERTFORD. Assignment of dower to Agnes, late the wife of the said Thomas, made at Staundon on Friday after the Circumcision, 15 Edward III, according to the tenor of the king’s writ, dated 15 December in the year abovesaid.
[Staundon] A chamber, chapel, grange, sheepfold, bakehouse, lands &c. (extent given with field names), including lands in the fields called Wenleye, Berewykfeld, Bradeleye, Efeld, Hungerfeld, Romhofeld &c. meadow in Thondermerssh, Langmede and Mullemede, pasture in Stokke and Prestesho, a grove called Sigeresgrove, and wood in Berewykwode; rents of divers tenants of the manor of Berewik (named); and a cottage which Richard Huchoun now holds to farm.
LINCOLN. Assignment of dower to the same Agnes, 26 February, 16 Edward III.
Casewyk. A third part of a waste close called Lachesmes and of various cultures (named), and of meadow and rents of free tenants and bondmen (named), and the third part of a custom called Haythesilver, and of the perquisites of a certain court and leet held yearly. If any lands &c. remain, from which the said Agnes has not at present been reasonably dowered, let her be dowered by the guardian of the two parts there or by the heir of the same parts when he shall come to full age.

New Bukenham, Attleburgh, Elyngham and Wylby. A messuage, land and rent (extent given), held for life in like manner of the gift of the said Alice and John of the king in chief by service of a twentieth part of a third part of a quarter of the buttery.

Kenardynton and Kocryde. 18a. arable, 20a. marsh, 30s. rent and a moiety of a messuage, held of the king in chief by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee; and 40a. marsh and 60a. arable there held of the prior of Horton by service of a rose yearly at Tynton.
Natyndon. 40a. arable and 20a. pasture held of the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, by service of 12 grains of pepper, to be paid yearly on Christmas Eve at Natyndon in the manor of the said prior; whereof, before the lands &c. were held of the said priors, the said Margaret was seised for her life, of the gift of John Godefrei and Stephen de Otryndene, by fine levied in the king’s court, with remainders to Ralph de Basyng’ and the heirs of his body, and to Thomas de Basyng’ in form aforesaid.
She died on Monday next before St. Luke, 15 Edward III. The said Ralph died without heir of his body, and the said Thomas is son and next heir of the said Margaret, and of full age.

The manor (extent given) held for his life, of the inheritance of Margaret, late the wife of Ranulph de Dacre, of the grant of Thomas de Multon, sometime his brother, deceased, of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of rendering the king for cornage at his exchequer of Carlisle 2s. 4d. yearly, with reversion to the said Thomas and his heirs, by charter and licence of King Edward II.
He held no other lands &c. on the day he died.
The aforesaid Margaret, daughter of the said Thomas, aged 35 years and more, is the next heir of the said Thomas, of the manor aforesaid.

The said tenements are worth nothing yearly beyond the said service, for the land lies uncultivated and in common, and the buildings are in ruins.
Wodecote. A messuage and half a virgate of land held of Sir Henry de Percy by service of 40d. yearly.

CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Wygton, 5 January, 15 Edward III.
Blencogow. The manor (extent given) sometime held by William de Blount, knight, of Margaret de Wygton, lady of Wygton, now the wife of Sir John de Weston, and daughter and heir of Sir John de Wygton, as of her manor of Wygton, by homage and fealty and suit at the court of Wygton every three weeks, and by service of 13s. 4d. yearly for cornage, which carries (attrahit) wardship and relief by the custom of the country; so that the said William le Blount and his ancestors held the said manor as above of the said Margaret and her ancestors from time out of mind; which William assigned a third part of the said manor of Blencogow to Joan, sometime the wife of Sir John le Blount, father of the said William le Blount, to hold in dower. And afterwards the said two parts and the reversion of the third part of the manor came to the hands of King Edward II by the forfeiture and rebellion of the said William le Blount, knight, who adhered to the Scots in time of war; which king gave the two parts and the reversion of the third part, which the said Joan held in dower, to the said William de Loghmaban and his heirs until he should provide him with 10l. of land in a fitting (competenti) place, to hold of the said king by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, rendering yearly for the same at his exchequer four marks, and doing the accustomed services to the other chief lords of that fee, if there should be any. The said Joan, by virtue of the said grant, attorned to the said William de Loghmaban, and died during his life-time.

The manor (extent given), including the advowson of the priory of Bradewelle, held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by a whole barony, which is called the barony of Wolverton, rendering yearly for the same 7l. 10s. for the ward of the castle of Northampton; but the lord of the manor receives nothing from the priory save only that in time of vacancy he shall present as prior to the bishop of Lincoln a clerk by the monks of that place.
