MIDDLESEX. Inq. Wednesday after the quinzaine of St. Michael, 18 Edward II.
Eye. A toft, 45a. land, and 3a. meadow, held of the king as of the manor of ‘la Neyte’ by service of 4s. yearly at the said manor, and suit at the king’s court of Eyebury, were held by the said John atte Hyde when he married Margery his wife, and for twelve years after until he enfeoffed John de Benstede thereof, who held them for twelve years and more, after whose death they were seised into the king’s hands by reason of the minority of his heir. And the said Margery has not been dowered otherwise in respect thereof, nor has quit claimed her right, and no other lands have descended to the heirs of the said John atte Hide, from which they could satisfy her dower. The guardian of the lands &c. had nothing otherwise to say.
Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Joan de Balsham that since the lands &c. of John de Benstede were taken into the king’s hand, the escheator had not paid her 10 marks yearly which the said John granted her for life, for a quit claim of all actions &c., and which she received from the manor of Benyngton, co. Hertford, 24 May, 17 Edward II.

488. WILLIAM BANASTRE.
Writ of plenius certiorari to Gilbert de Syngleton and John de Horneby, on the petition of Adam son and heir of the said William, that certain lands which the said William held in socage of Thomas, sometime earl of Lancaster, and which are in the king’s hand by his forfeiture, may be delivered to him for his sustenance, 10 September, 17 Edward II.
LANCASTER. Inq. Monday the morrow of St. Vincent the Martyr, 17 Edward II.
Quintingham. 12a. land and 12a. wood in demesne, and a moiety of a carucate of land, excepting part 1/6 thereof, in service, sometime held by the said William of Adam de Frekilton by homage and service of 2s. to a scutage of 40s., who held the same with other lands directly of Thomas sometime earl of Lancaster by knight’s service, and whose son Adam was outlawed for the death of Henry de Bury; by reason whereof, after the death of the said Adam the father, the said earl seized the said tenements into his hand as escheat, by reason of the minority of the heir of the said William.
Etheleswik. The reversion of a messuage and 3 bovates of land, held of the said Adam de Frekilton the father by homage and service of 22 1/2d. to a scutage of 40s., seized by the said earl by reason of the said outlawry and minority, after the death of Joan late the wife of Thomas de Singelton who held them for life of the inheritance of the said Adam son of William Banestre.
Claghton in Amundernesse. A moiety held in service, as of the inheritance of Alesia the wife of the said earl, by homage and service of 1/8 knight’s fee and 2d. yearly; 2s. rent in the other moiety held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of a rose yearly; and 2s. rent held of the abbot of Cokirsond by service of 1d. yearly.
Little Singilton. The hamlet held of the said earl by homage and service of doing the office of the bailiwick of the king’s serjeanty in the wapentakes of Amundernesse and Blakeburnschire, viz:—executions of the mandates of the king’s courts, by writs or summons of the exchequer, executions by command of the sheriff of judgments of the (courts of) the county and wapentake of Ammundernesse, attachments &c.
Thorneton. A moiety, excepting a moiety of 5 bovates of land, held of the said earl by service of 8s. yearly, and doing suit at the county (court) of Lancaster and wapentake of Amundernesse.
Billisburgh. A messuage, 22a. land, and a mill, held of the said earl in demesne, and the residue of the town held in service, by service of 2s. yearly.
Dilleworth. A moiety of the hamlet, held of the said earl in demesne, and the other moiety in service, by free service of 2s. yearly.
Halghton. 3a. land, and 2s. 5 1/2d. rent, held of the said earl by service of 1/2d. yearly.
Preston. A messuage, 6a. land, 1a. meadow, and 6s. 6d. rent, held of the said earl in free burgage.
All which lands &c. came into the king’s hand by reason of the forfeiture of the said earl, and not otherwise.

SUFFOLK. Inq. 29 May, 17 Edward II.
Sapiston. A messuage, 54a. arable, 8a. marsh, and the liberty of a fold, held by the said Thomas as parcel of the manor of Fakenham Aspes, which is held of the king in chief, as of the castle of Norwich, by service of 22d. for the guard of the same castle every twenty weeks. He held no other lands &c.
He died on 27 March, 16 Edward II. Peter his son, aged 25 and more, is his next heir.
Sapiston. A moiety of a messuage, 24a. arable, and 2a. marsh, held by the said Isabel for life in dower, of the inheritance and by the assignment of the said Thomas, of the king in chief as aforesaid.
She survived the said Thomas, and died about the feast of the Ascension, 17 Edward II. Heir as above.

Button. A moiety of the manor (extent given), including 200a. wood within and 3a. wood without the chace of Kyngeswode, and the pleas &c. of a moiety of a foreign hundred (court), held of the king in chief for half a fee by knight’s service.
Manegodesfilde within the barton of the castle of Brystoll. A capital a messuage with a fish pond &c., 30a. arable, 6a. meadow, 36s. rents &c. held of the honour of Gloucester, of the pourparty of the lady of Audeleye, for half a fee by knight’s service; and the said messuage &c. with all the above, are in the hands of Hugh le Despencer, the younger, since the said David’s death.
He died on Wednesday after St. Kenelm the Martyr in the year abovesaid. Richard his son, aged 32 and more, is his next heir.

Whereas by inquisition of 1 April, 17 Edward II., it was found that the said John held no lands &c. of the king in the escheator’s bailiwick whereby the wardship of his lands ought to pertain to the king, and afterwards the king was given to understand that he held certain knight’s fees of the king in chief as of the honour of Tremington, but, that Henry de la Pomerey, of whom the said John held certain lands &c. by knight’s service, had sold the marriage of the heir to Ralph de Esse, who had married him, whereupon the king commanded him to warn the said Henry to be in the chancery to show cause &c., but the escheator has done nothing therein: he is commanded to make enquiry, and warn the said Henry to be in the chancery on the morrow of St. Peter ad Vincula next.
