Edwardston. The manor (extent given), held of the king as of the honour of Eye by service of 12 knights’ fees, suit at the court of the honour, and 2 1/2d. at the end of 21 weeks for the guard of the castle of the same honour.
Lelseye. The manor (extent given), held of the abbot of St. Edmund’s by service of 1/6 knight’s fee, suit at the abbot’s hundred (court) of Cosford, 3s. 6d. rent, and 3d. yearly for guard; and a windmill held of Adam dil Cherche by service of 1d. yearly.

The manor (full extent given), including meadows called ‘le Westmede’ and Blakenheigh, meadow in Wolvenham, and a close called ‘le Spyne,’ held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, the lords of the manor finding the king a larderer yearly at their own charges; which serjeanty was rated in the time of King Henry III., at 111s. yearly to be rendered at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff.
Wendover. A messuage, 50a. land and a little wood, held of Robert de Fienles by service of one appearance at his court in Wendover yearly.
Dunrugg in Aston. A messuage, 100a. arable, 2 groves, and 4s. rent, held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, and it renders at the king’s exchequer 11s. 9d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff.

Cumquintyn. A moiety of the town held of Robert de Whitrigg and John de Croffton by service of cornage.

The said Elizabeth continued her seisin of all the above until the death of her [said husband], and after his death ………… . . the church of Bampton to William de Edenhall.
Carlisle. A toft was held by John de Morpath, of the inheritance of Margery de Penyton his wife, of William de Karliolo by service of 1d. yearly, and now lies waste, of which service neither the said William de Monte Acuto nor Elizabeth were ever seised.

[SURREY.] Combe Nevill. A moiety of a capital messuage, lands &c. (extent given), assigned to John de Hadresham and Nicholaa his wife, one of the daughters and heirs of the said William. And there remains the other moiety (extent given), in the king’s hand by reason of the pourparty of Richard de Wayte who married Alice the other daughter and heir, of the inheritance of Henry her son and heir now under age.
A partition of other lands &c. of the said William in Suthmourton …… could not be made on account of other business of the king.

240. SIMON SON OF ROBERT LE BRET.
ESSEX. Proof of age. Saturday in Whitsun week, 13 Edward II.
Ralph Curpayl, aged 60 and born at Sturmere, one league from Wrattyngg where the said Simon was born, where he has dwelt continuously from his birth, says that the said Simon is son and next heir of the said Robert, and is 24 and more; and this he knows because he was present in the church of Wrattyngg when the said Simon was baptized.
John son of Simon de Haverhell, aged 45 and born at Haverhill a league from Wrattyngg, where he has dwelt continuously from his birth, agrees in all things with the said Ralph.
John Calabre, aged 70 and born at Wikesho by Haverhill, who has dwelt in Wrattyngg for 40 years, agrees.
William le Longe, aged 60 and more and born in Sturmere where he has always dwelt, says he was present when the said Simon was born, and knows it was 24 years and more ago.
Gilbert le … . llere, aged 70 and born in Haverhill where he has dwelt from his birth, says he was at the house of Robert le Bret when the said Simon was born, 25 years ago.
William Morice, aged 46 and born in Sturmere where he has always dwelt, says the said Simon is 25, and knows it because at the time of his birth, the said William and Robert the father had jointly a carucate in common for six beasts, and in the same year went in pilgrimage to Canterbury.
Roger son of William de Sturmere, aged 50, who was born and has always dwelt in Sturmere, says the said Simon is 25 and knows it because he was present when Biblia his mother was purified from the said Simon.
William le Taylour, aged 50, who was born and has always dwelt in Sturmere, says the like, and knows it because he was present when the said Simon was born and baptized in Wrattyngg.
Hugh le Fuller, aged 60, who was born and has always dwelt in Sturmere, says the said Simon is 24 and more, and knows it because he was in Wrattyngg at the time and was present when he was baptized.
Thomas de Staunton, aged 50, who was born and has always dwelt in Wrattyngg, says the like, and knows it because he lifted the said Simon at the font and carried him in his arms to the house of the said Robert his father.
Robert le White, aged 37, who was born and has always dwelt at Kediton half a league from Wrattyngg, says the like, and knows it because he was present when the said Simon was born.
Richard son of William de Sturmere, aged 48, who was born and has always dwelt at Sturmere, says the like, and knows it because he was present when the said Simon was born and baptized.

His daughters, Joan aged 34, whom Stephen de Kynmarleye married, Petronilla aged 30, whom Gilbert de Barwe married, Margery aged 28, whom John de Bowes married, and Agnes aged 26, whom John de Skerigton married, are next heirs of the said inheritance.

246. AGNES, DAUGHTER OF SIMON SON OF ALAN DE GOUSLE alias DE GOUSHILL, an idiot.
Writ of certiorari concerning the state of the said Agnes, and in whose hands her lands are, 27 April, 13 Edward II.
LINCOLN. Inq. Tuesday the morrow of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 14 Edward II.
Barowe. A messuage and a bovate of land were acquired from her father to herself and her heirs by the said Agnes, who was of good memory for 25 years from her birth, during which time she alienated them to Henry le Pynder of Goushill and his heirs, who alienated the same to John son of Alan de Barowe and his heirs for ever. Two years afterwards by an illness which came upon her the said Agnes became an idiot and has so remained for eighteen years. The said messuage is held of the abbot of Thorneton by service of 12d. yearly, and the land is held of John Deyvill by service of 3s. 4d. yearly.

[DURHAM.] Inq. Sunday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 14 Edward II.
Hedlam. Three messuages, 90a. land on ‘le Houfeld,’ 12a. land, and 14a. land called ‘le Wodeflatte,’ held of the heir of Sir Guy de Bello Campo, earl of Warrewyck, by homage and fealty, and suit at the court of Gaynesford [alias Geyneforth], and by 6 1/4d. yearly for the guard of Newcastle for the land of Houfeld; and the said 26a. are held of the said heir by service of 2s. 6d. yearly. Alice, late the wife of the said earl, was dowered by the king in his chancery, of the services of the said Simon two years before his death.

Fayntre. A capital messuage &c., and another messuage, 3 carucates of arable land, 2a. meadow, a water-mill, a wood, rents &c. held of the king in chief by service of finding a footman with bow, bolt (petilio) and two arrows, in the king’s army whenever there shall be war in Wales between the king and the prince of Wales, at his own charges, until he shall have shot the said bolt and arrows at the king’s enemies.

Ysfeld. The manor, held for life, by the demise of John la Ware his son as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court, of the archbishop of Canterbury by service of a knight’s fee.
