Tudeworth. The site of a messuage, 89a. arable, 1a. meadow, pasture, 6l. rents of customers, and 2s. perquisites of court, held of the earl of Oxford, as of the inheritance of the said earl’s wife, by service of rendering 1d. yearly at Easter.
Fulk his son, aged 5 on the day after St. Bartholomew next, is his next heir.

Ullingwyk. A messuage, 1/2 carucate of land and 12s. rent, held of Godfrey bishop of Worcester, owing him 1d. yearly.

Memorandum. That Isabel, late the wife of Fulk de Penebrugg who held nothing of the king nor of others by knight’s service, petitions for the wardship of all the lands held by the said Fulk in socage, because she is next (friend) to the heir (who is) a minor aged 5 years.

YORK; EAST RIDING. Inq. made at Pokelington on Wednesday after St. Michael, 24 Edw. I.
Northgeveldale. A messuage, 32a. arable, 4a. meadow, a water-mill, five tofts and three carucates of land and two waste plots.
Est Geveldale. Half a carucate of land.
All held of the king in chief by homage and service of finding a moiety of a crossbowman (balistar’) in time of war in the castle of York at his own charges.

Oxwyk. A capital messuage, 10a. land, rents and works, held of the earl of Warenn, service unknown.

Finchinfeld, Assewelle hamlet. A messuage, 75a. arable, 4a. meadow, 4a. pasture, 40a. wood, a water-mill, and 4s. assised rent, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 1/2 mark yearly at the king’s exchequer, which service used to be done by the serjeanty of keeping the king’s spits (custodiendi hastelariam); and a virgate of land, held of the heirs of Adam de Nortoft by service of 10s. yearly.
All which Nicholas de Assewelle sometime held as above, and gave to Henry le Somenour and Walter his son jointly, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said Walter, with remainder to the right heirs of the said Henry. The said Walter had no heirs of his body.
Roger, son and right heir of the said Henry, aged 30, is next heir of the said Walter according to the charter of feoffment, and as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court.

A capital messuage &c., 84a. arable in demesne, 16a. meadow, a close, 31s. 6d. assised rent, a fulling-mill, services and customs, held of the king in chief by reason of the lands &c. which were of Isabel de Fortibus, countess of Albemarle, in Cokirm(uth) by cornage, rendering 6s. 8d. at the castle of Cokirm(uth) yearly, and 8d. for a service called ’Sewakepeny’ at the same castle, and doing suit at the court of Cokirm(uth) every 3 weeks, and he renders for the whole land of Ribbeton to the prior and monks of St. Bees in Coupland 20s. yearly.
Rughthweyt. A moiety of the hamlet, held of Sir Richard de Brune, rendering him 40d. yearly for cornage.
Eglesfeld. A messuage and 38a. land, held of the lord of Eglesfeld, William de Ulleyk and Thomas de Brigham, rendering 2s. 6d. for cornage; whereof he and Ellen his wife were jointly enfeoffed 8 years before his death.
These lands were taken into the king’s hand by the king’s bailiff of Cokirm(uth) on 23 June, 23 Edw. I. and are there still.

A capital messuage &c., 8a. arable, 16a. worse arable, 6a. worst arable, a pasture in the marsh, 3 1/2a. meadow, 12l. 9s. 6 1/2d. assised rent, 1/2lb. pepper, 1lb. cummin, two seams (seue) of salt, 14 cocks, 99 hens, and a mill, held as dower through the death of Thomas Abelyn, sometime her husband, of Sir John le Sawage, who married Mary sister and heir of Nicholas Abelyn. She did the homage of the whole inheritance to the king after the death of the said Nicholas and now defends by service of a knight’s fee and renders yearly 5 weys (pondera) of cheese, price 30s., to Sir Geoffrey de Luci at his manor of Newton.
John, son of the said Sir John le Sawage and Mary, aged 19 3/4 years and married, is her next heir.
Writ to the escheator to enquire who is next heir of the abovesaid Thomas Abelyn, 3 March, 24 Edw. I.
KENT. Inq. Friday after the Ascension, 24 Edw. I.
Moristone. Nicholas son of Thomas Abelyn was his next heir, and at the time of his father’s death was aged 35, but he died without heir of his body, and his next heir was Mary his sister the wife of Sir John le Savage, who at the time of the death of the said Nicholas was aged 24; the said Sir John did homage and relief to the king for those lands, which with other lands, are held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee.

Writ of plenius certiorari on the representation Roger le Bygod, earl of Norfolk and marshal of England, that Adam de Creting held the manor of Barewe co. Suffolk, of him in chief by knight’s service, wherefore the wardship and marriage of the heir pertains to him, 10 July, 24 Edw. I.

YORK. Inq. Wednesday after the Close of Easter, 24 Edw. I.
Alewoldeley. A messuage, 12 tofts, 2 1/2 carucates of land, and a water-mill, held of the king in chief by service of rendering 18s. 8d. yearly at the manor of Harewod, doing suit of court there every three weeks, and for the king’s scutage 6s. 3d. when scutage is at 40s., and rendering to the king 13 1/2d. yearly for wapentake fine, and to the prior of Boulton 5s. yearly for the said mill.
Neuhale. A messuage, 3 bovates and 7a of land, and 18d. rent, held by service of 3s. 2 3/4d. to be rendered at the manor of Harewod, and finding for one day thrice yearly a plough, and in addition a plough once a year, or 2d. on each occasion at the lord’s will, finding also six hoes or 6d. in autumn, paying for the king’s scutage at the rate of 11 1/4d. when scutage is at 40s., and rendering the king 1 1/2d. yearly for wapentake fine; and half a carucate of land held jointly with Alice his wife, who survives, which was given to him in free marriage with the said Alice, of the king in chief by service of rendering 5s. 1 1/2d. yearly at the manor of Harewod, finding for one day thrice yearly (sic), and in addition a plough for one day twice a year or 2d. for each occasion at the lord’s will, nine hoes or 9d. in autumn, paying for the king’s scutage at the rate of 15d. and rendering the king for wapentake fine 2d.
While the aforesaid manor was in the seisin of the countess of Albemarle, which is now in the king’s hand, [the said Roger] held all the aforesaid tenements of her by the above services, and similarly of the king on the day he died.
His daughters, Joan aged 8 at the feast of the Purification last, Margaret aged 6 at the feast of the Nativity of St. John last, Alice aged 3 at the Annunciation last, and Annabel aged 1 year at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula last, are his next heirs.

Scalleby. 3 bovates of arable land, two gardens and a fishery in Ancholm, 11s. 2d. rents of free tenants, 15s. 5d. rents of cottars, and pleas &c. of court worth 12d., held of John de Saundton by service of 1/20 knight’s fee.
Isabel his younger daughter, the wife of Peter de Briddeshale, aged 22 and more, and Peter son and heir of Mary his first-born daughter, the wife of John de Douvedale, aged 3 at the feast of St. Laurence last, are his next heirs.
LINCOLN. Extent, Thursday before St. Gregory the Pope, 24 Edw. I.
Saxelby. The manor (extent given), including 20a. meadow on the north of Fossedyk, and a rent of 2s. 8d. in Suth Carleton, held of the abbot &c. of Thorneton by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
North Clifton. A windmill, 22s. rent of freeholders, 4l. 13s. rent of bondmen, and 2s. rent of cottars, held of Baldwin Pygot, which Hugh father of the said Baldwin gave to Peter de Campania father of the aforesaid Peter in free marriage with Margery his daughter.
Heirs as above, Isabel aged 20 and more, and Peter aged as above.

LINCOLN. Petition of the abbot of Thorenton showing that whereas it was found by inquisition that Peter de Campania held certain lands &c. in co. Lincoln of the king in chief as of the honour of Albemarle and not of the crown, and certain other lands of the said abbot in Saxelby, these lands are retained in the king’s hand; whereof he prays remedy.
