These tenements are now in the king’s seisin by the death of the said Roger who held them of the king by the services contained in an inquisition made by reason of the minority of Joan, Margaret, Alice and Annabel, daughters and heirs of the said Roger, who are in the king’s wardship. The said William was seized of these tenements in fee on the day he married Annabel his wife, who sues this inquisition; so that she could be dowered thereof. He had no other tenements on the day he died. | |

Robert de Hyldeyard acquired all the aforesaid tenements, to hold to himself, Joan his wife and his heirs, of the chief lords of the fee, so that the same Joan was tenant for life. The manor (extent given), except the knights’ fees thereto pertaining and a certain plot of land; which manor with other lands &c. was at one time held of the king in chief by barony by Sir William de Say, who twenty years ago enfeoffed thereof by charter the said Alexander and Agnes his wife, to hold of the said William and his heirs rendering yearly a pair of gift spurs or 6d. and doing the service due therefrom for the guard of the castle of Rochester; and in such standing the said Alexander died.
Sir William de Cheney, aged 22, is his next heir. Endorsed:—It was found among the memoranda of the exchequer that Patrikesburne is of the barony of Say and is held of the king by barony.
