Censorial hearings

15 April 1586
Entry L, an 'unskilled woman, and a demented old wife', had long practised medicine. A letter was written on her behalf by Lord Hunsdon, asking that she be officially licensed. College replied to H, 6 April 1586 (v Goodall pp. 40-1), saying she was 'a woman, utterly ignorant in that profession', had made 'errours, harmes and offences' in the past & had often promised not to practise and broken her word. L 'dailie doth meddle to the great daunger of her Majesties good subjects'; but leniency would be shown in deference to Lord Hunsdon.
