Armorial Index of Royal, Civic And Academic, and other Heraldry Before 1850
The blazons given are those that appear on the monuments surveyed. They are not necessarily the generally accepted blazon. Where a coat-of-arms occurs several times and in varying forms the commonest form is blazoned, and the variants are indicated by enclosing their page references in brackets. Where variants are equally common the one in the form generally accepted by Heralds is blazoned and the others have their page references in brackets. Where variants are equally common and no one is the more generally accepted the variations are indicated in the blazon.
The suffixes 'a' and 'b' in the index signify respectively the first and second column of the page.
