FOREWORD
This, the fourth volume of an Inventory of the earthworks of Northamptonshire, describes the archaeological sites within the south-western part of the county. Of the 530 or so monuments which are described, many have not hitherto been recognised.
The archaeological sites recorded in this volume have been examined by our staff, but much original material was gathered from published records and manuscript notes and from verbal information supplied by local archaeologists and historians; the Commission is conscious of the debt which it owes for the help received from these sources. It is hoped that this Inventory will be of use not only to archaeologists but also to those concerned with planning decisions or with conservation. This volume also includes Addenda, in which are briefly listed those sites and finds which have come to light since the completion of the first three Inventories.
