FOREWORD
This Inventory lists the archaeological sites in the north-west of Northamptonshire and is the third in a series of five volumes covering the whole of the county. Some of the 588 monuments described here are certainly of national importance and many are recorded for the first time.
Our staff have examined the archaeological sites in the field and have also drawn widely on published sources. The Commission is indebted, however, to local historians and archaeologists who have contributed much valuable new information. Many of the monuments listed are under serious threat of damage or total destruction and it is hoped that this Inventory may be a useful guide to planners and archaeologists who wish to establish the relative importance of sites, with a view to excavation or conservation.
