Standard Department

Warden of the Standards 1866-70

Following the Standard of Weights, Measures and Coinage Act 1866 the Chief Clerk in the office of the Comptroller of the Exchequer was transferred to the Board of Trade with the title of Warden of the Standards. (fn. 1) The salary attached to the office, originally £700, was raised to £900 in 1867. (fn. 2)

Clerk 1866-70

This official was transferred from the office of the Comptroller of the Exchequer in 1866 with a salary of £300. (fn. 3)

APPOINTMENT
1866 20 Aug. Chaney, H. J.

Mechanic 1866-70

This official, who also acted as Messenger, was transferred to the Board from the office of the Comptroller of the Exchequer in 1866 with a salary of £85. (fn. 4) In 1867 the Mechanic was also appointed Office Keeper to the Standard Department and provision was made for his salary to rise by annual increments of £5 to £100. (fn. 5)
