Housekeeper of Levée Rooms 1762-1814

The apartments known as the Levée Rooms, which had been occupied by the office of the Secretary of State for the Northern Department, were transferred to the Treasury about 1762. In that year the then Bag Carrier was appointed their Housekeeper. From 1765 until its discontinuance in 1814 the office was held by women. (fn. 1)

The salary attached to the office in 1762 was £40. By 1794 it had been increased to £50. (fn. 2)
