October 1689

Ocr: 1. Tuesday, Bedisford came with a coachman to be hyred; brother & Mrs Tovey dined with us; I stayd at home all day; Lady Wood & daughters came in the evening; supt in Biddolph's chamber; went before 8.

2. Wednesday, Mrs Wood dined with us; Tovey came after dinner; stayd not; a man came with a bill to Biddolph & another to Mainwaring upon pretence of money due to Abney.

{then a crossed out section as follows - then came Dr Needham & the surgeon; then Dr Tennison who prayd with my daughter &c; Garrat came with daughters watch; I went past 5 to meete Jones in the Citty (Jones of the Cellar) we went to the Swan & Hoop in Cornewall; had 2 pintes of wine; parted about 8; I called at the Nags Head; there was Wood & Maxwell; I gave them a pinte of wine, parted past 9, brought Wood home; went home &c} I went in the evening to Mr Trenchard's lodgings, he was not in towne; I called at the Nags Head; there was Maxwell, Partridge, Russell, Cooper, I left them past 8, called on Wood, stayd awhile, went home: 3. Thursday, I dined at home, Roger, brother & Houseman's mother with us; after dinner came Garrat with daughter Mainwaring's watch; the doctor & surgeon came to Moll: Dr Tenison to pray to her, then I went to meete Mr Jones about 6; Jones of the Cellar was with him; we went to the Swan & Hoop in Cornewall; had 2 pintes of wine, parted about 8; I called at the Nags Head; there was Wood & Maxwell; I gave them a pinte of wine, parted past 9, brought Wood home, came home.

4. Friday, Kent & Roger came about money for Rogers clothes; I dined at home; after dinner came Mrs Shakerley to my daughters; I took the ayre in the evening; stayd at home all night after.

5. Satorday, Mr Warburton came about his brothers businesse; Dr Tennison came to administer the Sacramenent to myselfe, daughters &c; & Mr Thomas (& Irish minister) who will come dayly to reade prayers to us; he dined with us & brother & Mrs Haueland; Wood's man came to see us & know if we would meete his master at the Nags Head in the evening; thither I went about 6; there was Wood, Harris, Maxwell & another (I think his name Partridge) we parted past 8; I brought Wood home.

6. Sonday, was not at church, Mr Thomas read prayers, dined with us; soe did brother Peter; I stayd at home all day; in the evening came Wood, his Lady & daughter; Wood stayd till past 8, took a pipe & a glasse of wine with Thomas in Biddolph's: chamber.

7. Monday; Thomas read prayers; we dined, Mrs Tovey with us; about 2, Teale came to speake about the copper oare; the doctor & surgeon came to my daughter Biddolph; Wood sent his man that I would meete him at the Cherry Inne; I was there about 6; there was Wood & another with him; about 8 came Captaine Corbet; Wood & I parted about 9.

8. Tuesday, I sent my daughters to speake with Biddolph about his wife's condicion, money &c; dined at home, Thomas with us & brother; stayd within all day.

9. Wednesday, Kenrick came about the copper; Hughes about his having bin at Newmarket to get an imployment; Biddolph, Roger, Thomas & Tovey dined with us: in the afternoone the surgeon came to daughter Biddolph & Mr Coriton to see her husband; cosen Kate came to see us, supt with us &c; went past 8.

10. Thursday, dined at home, Biddolph & brother with us; after dinner Sir Richard Raines came to see Biddolph, stayd but awhile; in the evening (past 6) Biddolph & I went to meete Wood at the Nags Head; there was Wood, Maxwell, Harris & Cooper; we parted about 9; brought Wood to his doore.

11. Friday, I walked through the parke; spoke with Mr Buckley & Lord Fairefax walking in the Mall; met there with Roger; he came home & dined with us; I stayd at home all day.

12. Satorday, betwixt 11 & 12 it pleased God to take my most deare daughter Biddolph from us; Lady Wood, Mrs Tovey & other frinds came to us; brother, they & Bedisford dined with us; Wood came in the evening & stayd awhile with us; Russell came to speake about my daughters funerall.

(110v October 1689 Ocr: 13. Sonday, stayd at home all day; Roger dined with us; afternoone came Bedisford; stayd awhile; Mrs Wood, Sir Edward Wood & Lady Wood came past 3, supt with us; went past 3; Hilman came then to speake about mourning.

14. Monday, a neighbor barber trimmed me; I sent Houseman to the Deane &c; at Westminster about my daughter's funerall in the Abbey; Mrs Vanham dined with us, brother & Roger; in the afternoone came Lady Wood & daughter; also Bedisford; about 6, Biddolph I & daughters went with Lady Wood to theire house; Sir Edward was at home, we supt there (in the meane time my deare daughter Biddolph's: body was removed to the Abbey) we came home past 9.

15. Tuesday, cosen Kate Morgan & brother dined with us; afternoone came Bedisford, then Sir John Napper; then Lady Wood &c; about 6, we went to the funerall of my most deare daughter Mary; she was buryed in the Abbey in or near her most deare mother's grave; we retorned about 9; Sir Edward Wood, his Lady, Rogers & Maxwell supt with us; parted past 10.

16. Wednesday, cosen Philips came to see us & the taylor's man about my clothes &c; I dined at home, Biddolph with us; Bedisford came about 3, stayd not long; Yong came past 4, stayd neare an houer; Lady Wood & daughter came & went presently; Tovey came & retorned presently; about 6 Biddolph & I went to see Sir John Napper, he was abroad; we then went to the Nags Head; there was Wood, Coling, Rogers, Maxwell & Partridge; we parted past 9; brought Wood & Coling home.

17. Thursday, I took phisick, the Taylor's man came to alter my clothes; retorned about 11; Roger dined with Biddolph & sisters below; I kept house all day.

18. Friday, dined at home, Mrs Shakerly with us; after dinner Mainwaring retorned from Cheshire; Wood & his Lady came in the evening.

19. Satorday, went to the Parliment with Mainwaring dined at home, Mainwaring, Biddolph, Wood, Lady & daughter, brother Peter & William Mainwaring, Bedisford; stayd at home all night.

20. Sonday, was not at church, dined at home, brother with us; in the evening brought daughters to Woods; then went with Biddolph & Mainwaring to Nags Head, parted about 9; brought Wood home then came home.

21. Monday, went to Parliment were prorogued to Wednesday; dined at home; Wood, Lady & daughter; Shakerly & his wife with us; Biddolph went to Combe; I stayd at home all night.

22. Tuesday, I went to severall places about lodgings, then to Whitehall & to Mr Vernon to enquire for old warrants about franc letters in the Secretary's office; I met Maxwell there; he dined with us & Roger; Delves came to see us about 4, stayd not, nor Maxwell after him; I went to the Nags Head; there was Wood, Rogers, Maxwell, Every &c; Mainwaring &c.

23. Wednesday, Mainwaring & I went to the Parliment dined at home with Jarrat, brother &c; went at night to Nags Head, there was Wood, Rogers, Every, Maxwell, Mainwaring G.Mainwaring Russell, Partridge, Cooper &c; parted about 9; brought Wood home.

24. Thursday, went to Parliment dined at home with G.Mainwaring Norris &c; went about 4 to London; called on Baskervile & Baroby; went to the Sunne; there was 2 Mainwarings Baroby, Earle, Baskervile, Jarrat; parted about 9.

25. Friday, went to Parliment dined at Pryors with Norris, Lawton, 2 Mainwarings & 2 sons; went to the Comitte of Elections; then to the Romer by Charing Crosse; there was 2 Mainwarings Watkins, Bedisford; parted about 9.

26, Satorday, went to Parliment dined at home with Biddolph, Thomas & daughters; stayd at home all day.

28. Monday, went to the Parliment dined at home with Biddolph Thomas & daughters; about 6 went with Biddolph to Toveys, then to Nags Head; there was Wood, Rogers, Maxwell, 2 Mainwarings Cooper, Coling, Partridge, Every, & 2 or 3 more; parted past 9, brought Wood home.

29. Tuesday, I went with Biddolph & Mainwaring (about one) to the Lord Mayors feast at Guildhall; stayd there till 7; then went to the St John's head; there was Coote, Baroby, W:Mainwaring Parkhurst, & severall others; parted past 8, came home.

30. Wednesday, went to Parliment dined at Pryors with Biddolph, Mainwaring & Parkhurst; went to Comitte , then to Nags Head; there was Wood, Rogers, Maxwell, Every, Gilmore, Coling, & severall others; Wood, Biddolph & I left them about 9, went home.

31. Thursday, went to Parliment dined at home, there was Abraham Dashwood, sonne, & brother I went to Nags Head past 6; there was Wood, Rogers, Maxwell, Coling, Gilmore, Harris & some others; left them at 9; brought Wood home.
