Anibald, bishop of Tusculum. Whereas the pope made provision to John de Melbourn, on 6 Id. Mar. an. 1, of a canonry of York, with reservation of a prebend, under which John took the prebend of Bernaby, about which there was a suit in the Roman court between Robert de Barthon and the late John de Thorp, in which Robert obtained a sentence in his favour; and whereas, although John de Melbourn afterwards accepted the prebend of Wetwang, nevertheless, because Anibald, to whom the pope had subsequently made provision of a canonry, with reservation of a prebend, accepted it, Melbourn gave it up to him. The said Anibald prays the pope, on behalf of Melbourn, to validate the said letters and processes, as if no subsequent acceptance or provision had taken place; notwithstanding that he has a canonry and prebend of Lichfield, and the church of Great Boudone, in the diocese of Lincoln.
