ADDENDA AND CORRIGENDA
(See also pp. 225–234, where of the most important Additions and Corrections are printed).
[There is some difficulty as to the exact date when Sir R. de Basing ceased to be an Alderman. He was present at a meeting of Aldermen on July 26, 1297 [Letter Book B, fo. 106 b (xxxii.)] and again on November 30th, 1297 [fo. 103 b (xxxv.)] when his successor (Northone) was also present. On August 26 in the same year Northone had been in attendance but not Basing (Lib. Cust. fo. 43 b). In the record of the November meeting he is described as Sir Robert de Basinge, citizen and knight, his name standing by itself and preceding those of the undoubted Aldermen: it seems certain that he was not actually an Alderman of a Ward then, but was permitted to attend the meetings of the Court, and I think this was also the case at the earlier date; see p. 250 for a similar instance of an ex-Alderman (H. le Waleys) being present at a Court]

I think it is hardly doubtful that the candidate for Bramber was identical with the J.
