GENERAL INDEX
This index includes persons, places, objects, iconography, materials and techniques. For extant objects, illuminated manuscripts, painting, sculpture, etc., see also the location index.
References in bold are to entries in the inventory. Page references followed by n are to footnotes. Cross-references are provided from selected English and French terms to the appropriate heading. These are designed to guide the user but not to give every variant spelling.
Many donors are named in the inventory, but bishops are cited only by their diocese and other donors only by the office they held. Where successive appointments were made during the 1390s and the identity is uncertain, the list of gifts is repeated for all the possible candidates, preceded by the convention cf. Other donors are named in different entries by their styles of both before and after 1397. References to peers are under their family names. Cross-references are supplied from diocese, office and title.
