  • 15. Henry le Gaunter 1322 LBE 174 (witness St. Mary at Hill). The surname was possibly Godeloue, not found elsewhere. If the correct reading is Godeleue, which seems possible, the surname may be Godeleve, a woman's name, found so late as 1343 and 1349 (see ELPN 39 f.).
  • 16. Gyle is hardly miswritten for Gylle. If the G was as in gibe, the surname may be Gile fn, a side-form of Giles. If the G was hard, a nickname from guile 'trick' (ME gile) may be suggested.

  • 45. Possibly identical with John de Mockyng de Somersete, a fishmonger of St. Magnus (1347 Will), referred to under that name, e.g. 1312 LBB 45. He is usually called J. de Mockynge in later sources, as 1328 LBE 232 (warden of fishmongers). He was a sheriff 1331-2, alderman of Cand 1336- 7, of Bridge 1338-47.

John Brother senior 1292 S [Bill 36]. Wymond had a sister Isabella Brother, whose will was enrolled in 1316. John Brother's wife was also called Isabella. If the testatrix of 1316 was the widow of John and not a daughter of his, Wymond was probably a brother-in-law and apprentice of John and took his surname.
