  • 2. John de Hertford 1286 LBA 166, 1300 Mem 43 (of Broad St ward). Presumably a merchant. - Hertford Hrt.
  • 3. Alice, widow of John de Evere, ironmonger, whose will was enrolled in 1277-8, and who had property in St. Christopher. Cf. nos. 6 and 18. - Iver Bk.
  • 4. Roger de Shorne 1302 Mayors 138, 1313-14 Will (fishmonger, owner of tenements in St. Mary Woolchurch and elsewhere). - Shorne K.
  • 5. Nicholas Hauteyn 1298 Mayors 12, 1298 LBA 184 (alderman). He was an alderman (of Coleman St) only in 1298 and probably died early. In Ant Leg 250 Nicole Hauteyn, mercer, is stated to have been a sheriff in 1307-8. This is a mistake for Nicholas Pycot, mercer, but Nicholas Hauteyn was probably a mercer too; cf. no. 6.
  • 6. Walter Haweteyn 1276-7 LBA 12, W. Hauteyn 1282 ib. 55 (mercer), 1292-3 Will. He left to Alice his wife, a nun at St. Sepulchre's, his dwellinghouse upon Cornhill; she was a daughter of John de Evre (cf. no. 3). He was a sheriff 1286-7 and alderman of Coleman St 1290-2. Walter Hauteyn, mercer, of Lincoln LBC 10 must be a different man. - Cf. CripI 28.
  • 7. Perhaps a cordwainer like Reginald de Chigenhal (1280 LBA 33), Roger de Chygenhale (1281 LBB 8). - Chignall Ess.
  • 8. Robert de Langgele 1311-12 LBD 166. Probably a mereer and connected with Jordan de Langele 1302 LBB 121 (mercer), J. de Langeleye 1321-2 Cor 46 (a tenant in St. Peter). - Langley (common).
  • 9. William de Creshantone 1300 LBC 67, W. de Creshaultone 1306 LBB 173 (a shoemaker of Cordwanerstrete). He will have moved after 1292. - Carshalton Sr.
  • 10. Robert Russel 1282 CW 60 (will of Juliana Maydegod). She had a nephew Ralph, who may well be Ralph Russel 1275 RH 424 (juror BroadSt), 1297 Will (cutler, a tenant in St. Christopher). Robert may have been a cutler. - Cf. Bridge 18.
  • 11. Stephen de Hakeneye 1303 Mem 47 (pheliper), 1310 LBD 114 (fripperer), 1312 Pat. - Hackney Mx.
  • 12. Colnbrook Bk. Cf. no. 33.
  • 13. Alexander le Coffrer 1295 LBB 60 (executor of no. 63), 1303 Mem 47, 1312 Will (a tenant in St. Peter).
  • 14. 15. John de Bromyerd, mercer 1304-5 LBB 149, 1311 LBD 140 (of BroadSt, deceased), J. de Brompyerd, mercer 1308 LBC 162. William has not been found elsewhere. - Bromyard He.
  • 16. Henry de Merlawe 1298-9 Mayors 47, 1303 LBC 120 (cutler), 1313 Will (cutler, of St. Christopher). - Marlow Bk.

  • 18. Egidius le Quelter 1282 Selden 55, Giles le Quilter 1285 LBA 91, G. le Quiltepointer 1286 Pat, G. le Cutepointer 1303 Will (owner of tenements in St. Christopher and St. Bartholomew). Christiana, his wife, was a daughter of Alice de Evre [no. 3] and is called C. de Evre in her will of 1316. Her chief messuage was in St. Christopher. - Quilter and quiltepointer (OF coutepointier) mean 'maker of quilts or counterpanes'.
  • 19. Colin de Northamptone, goldsmith 1278 LBA 25, Nicholas de Norhamptone, goldsmith 1303 LBB 130, N. de Northampton, goldsmith 1310 LBD 118. The identification is open to some doubt, because the ward of the goldsmith is not stated and orfrer possibly means 'maker of orphrey'. Cf. no. 55, and see Appendix.
  • 20. Adam son of Alexander le Peyntour 1325-6 Cor 148 (juror BroadSt).

Robert his son, was sworn City carpenter in 1300-1 (LBC 86), and John was probably a carpenter. But a nephew of his, Thomas Ossekin (1279 Will), was a cordwainer. - Osekin is no doubt a font-name.
  • 50. Possibly Eweseye is for Oweseye. If so, perhaps John Oveseye, the will of whose daughter Katherine was enrolled in 1333-4. - Osea Island Ess.
  • 51. A water-carrier. Waterladestre has not been found elsewhere.
  • 52. Richard de Cunnthone 1296 LBB 63, R. de Comptone 1299 ib. 93, 1302 ib. 116 (executor of no. 65), 1306 ib. 171 (a debitor of no. 53). Agnes, relict of R. de Comptone 1307-8 ib. 201. Perhaps a mercer. - Compton (common).
