South out of Tower Street, west of St. Dunstan's Hill (Strype, 1720-55). In Tower Ward.

Former names : "Carpenter's Yard" (O. and M. 1677-Lockie, 1816). "Sawyer's Yard " (Rocque, 1746).

Carpenters' Rents

West out of Jewry Street. In Aldgate Ward (Horwood, 1799-Elmes, 1831).

Former name : "Carpenters Yard" (O. and M. 1677-Boyle, 1799). Site now occupied by warehouses.

Carpenter's Yard

East out of Coleman Street, south of Swan Alley. In Coleman Street Ward (Elmes, 1831).

First mention : Curtilage called a carpenter's yard in Colman street "parcel of the Bisshops head" (q.v.), 27 Eliz. (1585) (Lond. I. p.m. III. p. 83).

Described by Strype as only a large timber-yard (ed. 1720, I. iii. 64).

Carpenter's Yard

In Austin Friars, within the priory precincts, granted in 1611 to Sir Noel de Caron, the Ambassadors of the Estates of the United Provinces.

Adjoined the Dutch church. Held of the Manor of East Greenwich. Now part of Nos. 2 to 5 and 6 and 6a Austin Friars (End. Charities Rep. Dutch Church, p. 3).

Carpenter's Yard

South of Little Britain, in Aldersgate Ward Without, with a passage into the Town-ditch (O. and M. 1677-L. Guide, 1758).

Possibly identical with Carpenter's Yard described by Lockie, 1816, as behind St. Bartholomew's Hospital, facing the cloisters.

The site is now occupied by King Edward Street.

South out of London Wall, in Broad Street Ward (O. and M. 1677-Boyle, 1799).

The site has been rebuilt in the 19th century and is occupied by offices and warehouses.

The site is now occupied by offices and business houses in Beech Street.

A Wharf on the Thames in East Smithfield, east of Alderman Stairs at 87 to 93 Lower East Smithfield (P.O. Directory).

Former name : "Carron Wharf."

Earliest mention in Elmes Topog. Dict. 1831.

Carron Company's Warehouses

On the south side of Upper Thames Street at No. 15, in Castle Baynard Ward (P.O. Directory).

First mention : Horwood, 1799.

Seem to occupy the site of Castle Street (q.v.).

"Carron Wharf" was here 1810-31.
